AUTHENTIC, EXTREMELY RARE, one of a kind, handmade ANTIQUE Niello (Nielloed) SILVER SET with ARMENIAN inscriptions- made by Western Armenian (Ottoman Turkey) silversmith from city of VAN (near Lake Van)
As to the population and its culture, prior to WWI, one can
say that the Van's inhabitants were predominantly Armenians.
Van was famous for its silver works. Before 1918 the vast majority of Van’s
silversmiths were Armenians (there were reportedly more than 100 Armenian gold-
and silversmiths in the city). It is,
therefore, rational to label as ‘probably from an Armenian workshop’ all silver
work from Van, that can be dated ‘before 1918’.
Armenian silversmiths from Van were masters in producing Niello jewelry. Many say that they were the best in their field.

ORIGIN: WESTERN ARMENIA (Ottoman Turkey)- We acquired this unique
item from an Armenian family's Estate Sale in Tbilisi (Georgia). An elderly man in that family told
us that the man in the photo was his grandfather (Armenian used to live in Tiflis), who as a young member of ARF (Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Հայ Յեղափոխական Դաշնակցութիւն, ՀՅԴ), also known as Dashnaktsutyun), in early 1900's, within a small group crossed the Russian-Turkish border to transfer weaponry to the Fedayis (Armenian freedom (guerrilla) fighters) in Western Armenia (Ottoman Empire). Then he (with his military friends) moved to city of Van to organize Armenians' resistance-defense. In his birthday, his friends from one of the local (Van) Armenian silversmiths purchased this pipe & the tobacco box & gave them to him as a gift. *-All of the above-mentioned statements are based on the prior owner's provided information & facts. We are not experts in this field, and so we can not check the authenticity of the information.
