The author was one of the first Americans to investigate vaccination and was instrumental in the founding of Massachusetts General Hospital. His son also became a doctor but died from tuberculosis in 1834 at 24. He showed great promise and was educated in Paris. While there he wrote an important study of a cholera epidemic. He also discoverd a hereditary predisposition to emphysema. In addition to this, we have a clear path of owership of the book. Dr Jackson signed it to Dr Stevenson. There is a notation that it left Stevenson's estate in 1922. Then there is the bookplate of The Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities. After this it came into the possession of Goodspeed's Book Shop of Boston who sold it to Dr Knudson of Tucson and I acquired it from his estate. Also, included is a copy of an article written by Dr Knudson on Dr Jackson Jr for The New England Journal of Medicine in which he states that Dr Jackson Sr was one of the founders of said Journal.
