Very rare tin plate model of the original legendary 'NC223Y' Douglas Transport DC-1 plane from the early 1930s.
The plane on which this model is based was known as 'The City of Los Angeles' when it operated as a commercial TWA plane and was also known as 'Old 300'.
This plane is often mistaken for the later DC-3 / DC3 plane, but with the 'N number' - "NC223Y" - this model is actually a version of the only DC-1 plane which broke Transatlantic and other flying speed records in the 1930s.
The model itself is a pre-war tin-plate clockwork plane made by Kuramochi in Japan.
Wingspan is 17cm or 6 and 1/2" in length. From nose to tail it is 12cm or 4 and 3/4" in length.
Condition of the model is good considering its age and is very presentable (see photos).
The propellers turn when the driving cogs are moved by hand, but the wind-up mechanism does not work currently without this assistance.
This is a very nice version of an historic plane and would make an excellent Christmas or Birthday gift or for an aviation collection.
