The Decca record label was founded in 1929 by stockbroker Edward Lewis and acquired a reputation for pioneering new recording technologies such as 'full frequency range recording', the long-playing record and the development of stereo recording. During the Thirties and Forties, Decca was the second biggest record company in the world – only EMI was bigger – and Lewis would run it for the next half-century. Decca was quick to respond to the US rock'n'roll revolution and could boast many of the earliest and most credible names in British rock.
