This is a handmade Steampunk Bolt Action ballpoint pen made by Placid Crafts. Yes, this pen is made from a 5/8" X-Pattern Rebar Rod. The Hardware on this pen is Antique Pewter & Copper. This pen features the Victorian age Industrialized 19th century look. Some of the cool features of this pen is 24 small flat head screws, the riveted design pattern, the replica Gatling gun barrel, The hand lever pocket clip, The bullet NIB, and not to mention the Bolt Action ink advance mechanism. The pen is 5-7/8" long. I would consider this a larger than standard diameter pen because the pen body is 5/8" X-Pattern Rebar. The raw rebar pen body is very unique and not like the standard pen blanks that you buy, and the rebar definitely adds weight to the pen. This pen body has no lacquer, sealer, or acrylic covering. ABOUT REBAR:
Rebar (short for reinforcing bar), also known as reinforcing steel. Common rebar is made of unfinished tempered steel. Rebar is used as a tension device in reinforced concrete and masonry structures to strengthen and hold the concrete in compression.
The majority of rebar are deformed, as opposed to round. Rebar's surface is patterned to form a better bond with the concrete.The ribs and depressions on its surface can increase the bond strength with concrete and prevent slippage. The pattern vary but usually there are two raised lines running the length of the bar 180˚apart with a spiral pattern between them. The deformed rebar is NOT ROUND. The diameter across the raised bars is larger than the diameter opposite the bars.
Rebar is tempered steel that is case hardened. The core is alloy steel but the closer to the outside the harder the steel gets. This makes drilling it a real problem. I use special hard drill bits manufactured from tungsten and molybdenum to increased hardness and with cobalt added to ensure superior heat resistance.

This is a bolt action pen that uses the Parker style ink refill. This pen comes with a Fisher Space Pen SPR Series Pressurized Black Ink/ Medium Point ink Cartridge installed. It will take Parker inks and Gels, or the Fisher SPR series refills. To change the ink it unscrew the pen tip and then the ink cartridge pulls out. This pen uses the Parker style ink refill so we used a Fisher Space Pen SPR Series Pressurized Black Ink / Medium Point ink Cartridge. It will take Parker inks and Gels, or the Fisher SPR series refills. This refill was developed for NASA and has been used on EVERY Space Shuttle mission both American and Russian. They are hermetically sealed with a specially formulated thixotropic ink and pressurized to about 35 PSI. They are the only refills that will write at any angle because they do not rely on gravity, and have a shelf life of 100 years. The bottom paragraph tells more about the Fisher story.

About Fisher Space Pen
Fisher Space Pen is yet another great breakthrough from space research. No other pen has so much to offer. This pen was designed in 1965 by Paul C. Fisher, for NASA, and with no cost to NASA or our government. Ordinary pens rely on gravity to write. Hold them upside down and they quit.
