There must be a place reserved for Sam Hui in Hong Kong's collective memory of the 80s. Many people still remember him vividly as King Kong in the Aces Go Places Series, and of course we can't forget his sloppy partner, the famous bald detective Albert (Karl Mak), as well as Albert's wife, policewoman "Hot Tongue" (Sylvia Chang) and their cute little son Baldy, Jr (Cyrus Wong Ka-ming). Now they're all back in the Aces Go Places Series, a collection of the five Aces Go Places films digitally remastered and housed in a handsome collector's box!
All five films in the series were box office hits - Aces Go Places (1982), Aces Go Places II (1983), Aces Go Places III: Our Man From Bond Street (1984), Aces Go Places IV (1986) and Aces Go Places V: The Terracotta Hit (1989). Some were even so popular that they were exported to the west, and called the Mad Mission series! In each episode, King Kong and Albert are given a mission impossible, but the mismatched duo is always able to triumph over the bad guys in the end.
The Aces Go Places series is the Hong Kong version of the James Bond movies, but with more pronounced comedy and more sublime silliness. Each episode combines spectacular action with hilarious performances and funny jokes - and you can't afford to miss Sam Hui's theme song "Best Partners", which was ultra-popular during the eighties and remains so even to this day! Hong Kongers nostalgic for the 80s will undoubtedly enjoy these films, while new viewers should still be able to find plenty of amusing, action-packed fun!
