Chaosium CALL OF CTHULHU Horror Role Playing Game in the Worlds of H.P. Lovecraft  "ADVENTURES IN ARKHAM COUNTRY" 1997, #2342, Sourcebook & Adventures in the Lovecraft Country Series

Truly a magnificent reference and adventure book by Chaosium for the Call of Cthulhu Role-Playing Game System (the greatest game of all time!!).  Call of Cthulhu is a roleplaying game based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft, in which ordinary people are confronted by the terrifying beings and forces of the Cthulhu Mythos. Players portray investigators of things unknown and unspeakable, decent men and women of the 1920s who unexpectedly learn dreadful secrets. Since its inception in 1981 by Sandy Petersen, it has captured the Intellectuals of the gaming community, who were looking for more than just hack and slash, but a true-thinking game. Through the years Chaosium published many reference and adventure books that are now long since out-of-print and much in demand. They have become collectors items, as well as sought after reference materials. Sadly, Chaosium has not been in a position to reprint many of their earlier titles and so the only way to aquire these gems from the early days is via the secondary market. We here at Arkham Books (our curator and proprietor has been playing Cthulhu since 1981) are happy to offer the rare and used tomes of Call of Cthulhu's past days.

ADVENTURES IN ARKHAM COUNTRY, #2342, 1997 There is, in the state of Massachusetts, a valley along a river called the Miskatonic. It is shunned by its neighbors, for its cities are the focus of many dark legends. Dream-filled Kingsport, decadent Dunwich, witch-haunted Arkham, and ruined Innsmouth are all spoken of only in whispers. Few realize that the whispered legends of the Miskatonic Valley hide the darkest truth.

Within this book you will find five adventures, running the length of the Miskatonic Valley. Investigators can visit Arkham Bolton, Dunwich, Falcon Point, Kingsport, and even the Dreamlands. Ancient temples, degenerate deep ones, strange disappearances, and a murderous sorcerer are just some of what they will face...in Arkham Country.  This supplement is part of the Lovecraft Country series of gamebooks, which features background and adventures in Lovecraft's Miskatonic Valley.

CONTENTS:
BOOK & RARITY: Book measures approximately 8.5" x 11", softcover (perfect bound), published in 1997, 128 pages. Book is a solid Fine. Has some minimal shelf wear to edges and covers (mostly the covers have the finger print oils that the Chaosium books are so known for attracting). The first 22 pages have a lite crease on the upper right hand corner (about 4" extending through all pages). This is very light, as if the book as dropped in a game store, and these pages got bent. Overall, the book is bright, tight, and square. Has the feel of never having been read or owned, just thumbed a bit in a game store somewhere. No writing or highlighting inside, and all the handouts are mint and intact. It is one of the rarer books from the 1990s. A time period where Chaosium had invested WAY too much money in the CCG Mythos, and began having financial issues. The press runs were smaller at this time, and thus titles are harder to find. This is also at a time when many of the writers were not getting paid, and so the great class of the 1980s (Aniolowski, Herber, and so forth) were in their last throws of writing for Call of Cthulhu. As such, a fairly in demand book, and hard to find in collectible (or even decent) condition. As of this writing I could find but just two for sale in like condition, and they were in the $85.00 range. Those I found listed in "new" condition were at $135 and $190. Good luck!
