     Additional Notes:

This very nice and important map of the Oxford Shire was published in 1722 in the English edition of Gibson edited Camden’s Britannia [judging from its distinctive watermarks of a trodding horse in a circle as shown]. It has a quite decorative cartouche. Robert Morden’s British County maps [from Britannia in particular] are unusual and quite significant for they were the only large and detailed county maps of its period as noted by Tooley [see cited reference below]. Several English editions [e.g., 1st, 2nd, and 3rd editions in 1695, 1722, and 1753 respectively] of Camden’s Britannia were published with some subtle reversions.
