This is an amazing early Elgin. It is movement #198! They started with #101, so this is really THE 98TH WATCH PRODUCTED BY ELGIN. It is 18 size, key wind and set, gilt, marked “B.W. RAYMOND” and “No.198”. The plates are in very good condition, with no signs of abuse or overcleaning. The movement runs, but has not been cleaned or serviced in some years. So, I cannot guarantee it to be reliable. It has the correct NATIONAL WATCH Co. dial. The dial is nice. It has a couple of short, faint hairlines at the bottom. Original ‘butterfly’ blued steel hands. The case is coin silver, hunter, marked “A.W.W.CO., O’HARA PAT., COIN”. The case is probably not original to the movement. The case has good springs and hinges. The case shows wear from normal use, and has some small dents. Also, the case has no crystal. So what you are really buying here is Elgin movement #198. It is easy enough to get a better dial, and correct nice case for this and make a near perfect watch. When is the last time you have ever heard of a movement with a low number like this being offered for sale? Buyer pays shipping, $16 in USA. Thank you.
