A TRAGEDY: IN MODERN TRANSLATION BY ALICE RAPHAEL, by Germany's 19th century literary great, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and published in a 7.25" x 10.25" quarto containing xxv, [i],183 pages by the Easton Press in Norwalk, Connecticut as part of its "100 Greatest Books Ever Written" collection. It is bound in full burgundy leather which has been decorated in gilt on the spine and both covers, and is illustrated with a color portrait frontispiece of Goethe executed for this edition. It has a gold silk bookmark and matching watered silk endpapers. It has an Introduction by Carl F. Schreiber, A Note, by Mark Van Doren and has several black & white reproductions of engravings by Eugene Delacroix done for an 1828 edition.
