This is a charming 17th century provincial English silver thimble. It bears the maker's mark 'GS'. The rim bears a double row of pellets, with space for an engraved initials or motto. This is a mid 17th century thimble, c. 1660 AD. It has the early annulet shaped pits and a soldered seam, as one would expect for such an early piece. Most likely originally intended as a sweetheart gift for a young lady, since this type of thimble would have been a prize for an aristocratic lady. The condition is as excavated with a nice old earthy tone. A good early thimble for your collection.
