Ancient China, Tang dynasty, 618-907 AD.  A finely modelled majestic muscular horse and rider on a plinth, the horse with sea-green and chesnut glaze, the rider painted with black and carmine colour pigments. On a metal stand.

The statue comes with its Oxford Authentication Thermoluminesce analysis report which is consistent with period of firing. Certificate C100f37, 26 January 2000. 


The Tang Dynasty is regarded as a high point in Chinese civilization and a golden age of cosmopolitan culture. Its territory, acquired through the military campaigns of its early rulers, rivaled that of the Han dynasty, and the Tang capital at Chang'an present-day Xi'an was the most populous city in the world.

Condition: In very good overall condition, excellent detail, some expected age-related glaze degradation and minor scuffs, possible paint retouching on rider: three small perforations relating to authentication test; one on back of the rider and the other two on the horse's buttocks.
