Nikon 180mm f/2.8 ED AIS Ai-S - STILL SHARP  & GREAT PRICE TOO!!

The lens in view here is a used Nikon 180mm f/2.8 ED Ai-S Telephoto Lens in good condition. This lens is an example of the last manual focus 180mm f/2.8 produced by Nikon. Having a good heft of just under 2lb, the 180mm f/2.8 boasts ED (extra-low dispersion) glass for correction of chromatic aberration giving stellar results for any color photography with film or digital cameras. The fast f/2.8 maximum aperture makes it exceptional for sports, candid portraits and less than ideal lighting conditions. Wide open it produces spectacular blurred backgrounds to pull your subject into clean uncluttered focus. The built-in lens hood means you’re never without protection from stray light and unwanted flare.

This lens is used and for it’s vintage, it’s cosmetics carry many signs use. Mechanically it is a great performer. The focus ring is smooth and the aperture dial works as new, adjusting the diaphragm from wide open f/2.8 to fully stopped down f/32 without glitches. Optically it is compromised somewhat so we shot two series of images on a Nikon D7000 DSLR for comparison. Those photos are the last six (6) images in three (3) sets of two (2) photos each appear below. The first of each set is shot wide open at f/2.8, the second is shot at f/16. A comparison of the images shows the image contrast and soft/sharp look at each setting. As the lens will stop down to f/32 sharpness and depth of field will increase from that shown in this test. The test is an honest one. No image sharpening or size modification has been made though corrections for exposure have been balanced. You can choose to believe the test or not at your discretion. This 180mm f/2.8 is perfect for portraits with it’s telephoto image compression, smooth bokeh backgrounds and hand-holdable quality. Made for use with Nikon 35mm manual focus film cameras, the 180mm f/2.8 can shine brightly in the digital age on any Nikon DSLR or using a mount adapter of your choice (not a part of this sale) it can be attached to anything from a Micro 4:3 camera to a full sized DSLR body. Of course you can still use it on your favorite Nikon 35mm film camera body too. However you use it, it will produce favorable results you are sure to like.
