The National Bank of Kazakhstan has issued this oval-shaped coin dedicated to the Toad-headed Agama, a species of the agamid lizard found in Iran, North Afghanistan, Eastern Caucasus and Kazakhstan
The obverse design features the stylized image of a butterfly and some flowers as well as the inscription of the coin’s face value.There are the legends indicating the designation of metal, its fineness and the coin’s pure weight as well as the trademark of Kazakhstan Mint of the National Bank of Kazakhstan. The upper part of this silver coin includes the inscription “National Bank of Kazakhstan” in Kazakh. There is also the legend indicating the coin’s mintage year.
Reflected on the reverse, there are the images of two Toad-headed Agamas on barchan sands. One of the images is gilded. The lizard is famous for its neck flaps that it opens for aggressive display to make his head and mouth appear bigger in order to scare off predators or perhaps other lizards during mating.Along the rim of the silver coin, there is the legend indicating the name of the lizard both in Kazakh and Latin.
