Here we have a Mercury H lower unit for use on two cylinder Mercs with the H tower. Before disassembly this lower unit turned smoothly. Stripped the paint to inspect housing and found it to be in great shape with no breaks, cracks or welds. The driveshaft splines are in nice shape. The drive shaft measures 14-1/8" from the top of the housing and has 6 splines. Part # in gear case is ME6480. Looks like the skeg may have been shortened slightly. The water pump nut threads are nice. Pinion gear looks good. The drive gear has one tooth with a chip or possibly rust as shown in picture six. If you intend to use this lower unit, we recommend replacing the drive gear, the rear prop shaft bearing and water pump assembly ( as it is mia). If just using for display, reassemble and display.
