V-1 flying bomb

he V-1 flying bomb (German: Vergeltungswaffe 1 —also known to the Allies as the buzz bomb, or doodlebug and in Germany as Kirschkern (cherrystone) or Maikäfer (maybug) —was an early pulsejet-powered cruise missile.

The V-1 was developed at Peenemünde Army Research Center by the Nazi German Luftwaffe during the Second World War. During initial development it was known by the codename "Cherry Stone". The first of the so-called Vergeltungswaffen series designed for terror bombing of London, the V-1 was fired from launch facilities along the French (Pas-de-Calais) and Dutch coasts. The first V-1 was launched at London on 13 June 1944[6]), one week after (and prompted by) the successful Allied landings in Europe. At its peak, more than one hundred V-1s a day were fired at south-east England

The V-2 rocket (German: Vergeltungswaffe 2, retaliation weapon), technical name A4, was a long range ballistic missile that was developed by axis forces Germany towards the end of WW2. In June 1944, the German army began the use of the unique and very deadly weapons Better known to Londoners as the "BuzzBombs" or "doodlebugs," Fast RAF fighters like the Gloster Meteor and Hawker Tempest would attempt to flip over the V1 if they couldn't shoot it down. The V2  was a forerunner of the technology that put men on the  moon with the Saturn / Apollo series rockets etc.

When designer Dr Wernher Von Braun was informed of the first V2 hitting London, he remarked "The rocket worked perfectly except for landing on the wrong planet". Von Braun's dream was to launch his rockets into space.
