This is a fabulous late medieval silver-gilt signet ring, dating to the 15th - early 16th century. It is a large example, designed to be worn over a glove. The ring has an octagonal bezel, deeply cut with a set of initials W.H. between a wheatsheaf. It is an impressive looking signet ring, once fully gold gilded. The original owner may have been a wealthy merchant or mill-owner, who dealt in wheat and produce for trade. This signet would have acted as a private signature to seal letters and authenticate transactions. It has survived intact and perfectly wearable today.
