Description
Originally founded in 1866 by Donald Mozart and George Rice, the Hampden Watch Company has a long history in horology. Primarily the company manufactured size 16 and size 18 pocket watches of varying qualities.
The Hampden Watch Company was bought by the infamous Watch Case Maker, John C. Dueber in 1888 moving operations to Canton, Ohio. Dueber’s company was a very large producer of Solid Gold, Gold Filled, and Coin Silver watch cases of the era. The company supplied Elgin, Illinois, and Waltham, among others with cases for their watch movements.
By 1889 the company had two names: Hampden Watch Company, Canton OH for its watches and Dials and Dueber Watch Company, Canton, OH for the cases it manufactured.
In 1923 the company changed its name to Dueber-Hampden Watch Company. Here is a piece of their history up for you bidding pleasure.
This 1915, 18 Size, New Railway, 23 Jewel Open-Face Pocketwatch is quite the find. The Fire-Baked Enamel Dial is in excellent condition. The Double Sunk Dial is marked Hampden Watch Co. beneath the 12. It has Blue Steel Spade Hands which are in good condition as well.
The 18 Size, Lever Set movement is in Excellent Condition inside and out. It is marked The Hampden Watch Co., Canton, O., New Railway, 23
Jewels, Adjusted to Five Positions, Double Roller, 3351435 dating it to 1915 according to production records. It is running and setting nicely and keeping excellent time.
The Yellow Gold Filled Fortune Case is in Good Condition having been carried. It is marked Fortune, A.W.C.Co. Gold Filled, 617012 on the inside case back.
The crystal is NOS Glass and is in excellent condition. The case opens and closes properly and the bow is tight. What a Find!!!!
