The simple, synth-based Europop of Berlin's Alphaville borrowed heavily from the textures and drama of Ultravox and was essentially a showcase for the over-the-top, Bryan Ferry-influenced vocals of Marian Gold; the early lineup also featured Bernhard Lloyd and Frank Mertens, but membership fluctuated over most of the group's career. Released after the band's first two albums, " The Singles Collection", consists of their four biggest singles - "Forever Young" and "Big in Japan" from "Forever Young" album, and "Red Rose" and "Dance With Me" from "Afternoons in Utopia" - each included in two versions, one shorter and one longer. Some of the revampings are actually quite fantastic, particularly the "special extended mix" of "Forever Young" transforms the dramatic angst of the original into a soaring, triumphant anthem, all without changing anything in the lyrics or its performance, while the album version also appears for contrast. CD was released in 1988 on Atlantic and features 8 tracks.
