This is a nice early medieval gold finger ring, dating to the 5th - 6th century A.D. The gold ring is decorated with a simple raised turreted bezel, set with red glass enamel. The band of the ring is decorated with a geometric hatching design. Red enamel was in use by the Visigoths in Spain, to replace the popular garnet gemstone. This example is intact, the surviving red enamel is a good dark red colour. The ring is a great example, strong and without any damage. A nice Germanic Migration period jewel, from the collapse of the Roman empire.
