This is a charming ancient Roman silver intaglio ring, depicting a standing figure leaning on a staff. This most likely is a representation of Jupiter (Zeus) with an eagle at his feet. The intaglio is deeply cut on natural deep red sard gemstone. The intaglio is remarkably still set in its original silver ring, held in place with a lightly crimped bezel. This is a fine example of a Roman intaglio ring in good excavated condition.
