Rare Northwest Coast Tlingit Polychrome Twined Basketry Covered Pottery Ewer

Original Tlingit basket, believed to be circa late 19th or early 20th century. It has multicolored geometric bands on a medium to dark brown ground (minor damage to the weave on one side, see pictures) tightly woven around an old single handled yellow glazed stoneware pottery ewer. The weaving is done with a pattern of multicolored fret and chevron bands, colors show some fading, it has a nice aged patina. Cap is missing. These types of baskets are mostly seen with the weaving around a glass bottle. This is a rare and a fine example of the Tlingit weavers craft. Measures 8” tall by 5 1/2” at the widest point.
