CANON 50mm F1.2 LENS HEAD
from Leica Rangefinder type lens
British Military AWRE

Rare lens head from the early days of Canon, their very fast standard lens, 50mm f1.2.

S/ns: 18041, 18045, 18060.

This was bought by the British Military for their Atomic Weapons Research Establishment (AWRE) in the early 1960s, at a time when they needed to record oscilloscope traces or similar. It may well have been fitted to a non-standard 35mm camera, such as a Shackman, or similar, hence not needing a focusing mount or iris diaphragm.

The lens head is complete, I state this as I have had an enquiry as to whether it is complete or not.
It forms an image exactly as it should, and is identically similar to the lens units in complete Canon 50/1.2 rangefinder lenses.

I have photographed this with a Canon lens head of the same type that still has it's "beauty ring" detailing the Canon origin, you can see the design and execution are identical.

THIS SALE IS FOR A SINGLE LENS HEAD (numbered as detailed) ONLY.

There is a rear extension ring, the extension ring has a grub screw.
There is also a front clip on ring, the purpose of which
eludes me.

Cosmetic and optical condition should be perfect, as this is in a sealed polythene bag.
I do not know if this was sealed by Canon, that I would doubt. I suspect this would have been sealed by the M.O.D. after engraving with the AWRE designation.
If this lens is in less than perfect condition then I will accept a return for a refund.
