Rhodium:
Rhodium is a hard, silvery white, durable metal with a high shine. Rhodium is a chemical element with the symbol Rh is found in minute quantities in platinum ores. In jewelry, Rhodium is used as a high quality plating over sterling silver to reduce natural silver tarnishing. Because of the extremely high price of Rhodium, pieces plated with Rhodium are more expensive than traditional fine quality sterling silver pieces without the Rhodium finish.

Chrome Diopside Information:
Chrome Diopside is a strikingly beautiful gem with a very unusual name. The word Chrome comes from the word Chromium which is derived from the Greek chroma meaning color. Chromium is one of the elements which produces beautiful colors in several prized gemstones. Chromium, for example, is the reason that Rubies are red and Sapphires are blue. The Diopside part of the name is probably from the Greek dis + opsis which, when taken together, mean to have a double appearance or double opinion.

This gorgeous gemstone is known for having purer color than genuine Emeralds and has a much greater refractivity (sparkle) that most Emeralds have. Other names for Chrome Diopside include Chrom-Diopsid, Chrome Diopsite and Vertelite (a trademarked name).

Gemstone quality Chrome Diopside is relatively scarce and usually available only in smaller stone sizes. Some feel that larger pieces of Chrome Diopside loose the beautiful coloration that is so charmingly elegant. Chrome Diopside measures a somewhat soft 5.5-6.5 on the Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness and require traditional care in handling and storage.

Despite the strangeness of the name, Chrome Diopside continues to become more and more popular with people who appreciate fine quality gemstones. Every fine-jewelry collection should have several representative examples.

Colors and Sources:
Chrome Diopside occur naturally in several vibrant, rich shades of green.

Chrome Diopside is found all over the world including Angola, Antarctica, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Austria, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Mauritania, Mexico, Mozambique, Myanmar (formerly Burma), Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovak Republic, South Africa, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tanzania and the United States of America. The vast majority of jewelry-quality gemstones, however, are primarily mined in the former Soviet Union.

Due to current political conditions, all imports (including gemstones) from some countries are not permitted under United States law. In accordance with the law, none of the gemstones offered by CAB-FineJewelry are known to be from these countries. CAB-FineJewelry does not knowingly purchase, trade, sell or giveaway goods from any country embargoed by the United States of America. As individuals we may not agree with some of the laws of our great country. However, rather than breaking the law, we choose to work toward changing these laws in a orderly and legal manner and encourage you to do the same.

Care:
The Chrome Diopside gemstone is soft and should be given careful protection. Chrome Diopside should be sparingly cleaned using cool to lukewarm, mild, soapy water and rinsed with the same temperature water. Avoid sudden changes of temperature and, as with all fine jewelry, remove before doing any type of physical work. Traditional gemstone procedure of storing in soft cloth away from other articles of jewelry hold true, too. Ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners and chemicals should never be used.
