Up for auction is an Antique FOLSOM STATE PRISON Leather & Forged Iron MAIL BAG Sack Satchel. This Incredible Piece of California Prison History was obtained from a former California State Prison Guard who obtained it from a long ago retired Folsom Prison Guard. Not sure if he received it from the Prison Museum or another source. There is no provenance other that what we were told but this piece speaks of history to everyone who has ever seen it. As we were told it was used to bring the mail into the jail. It is quite worn as expected but very supple and the hand wrought iron framework is incredible. It measures approx. 17" in diameter x 16" tall not including the straps / handles, though it looks much larger as the leather puffs out beyond the frame. There is plenty of wear, holes and split seams as well as what looks like a Y on one side. The Iron is quite heavy with the sack weighing over 5 lbs. There is a loop that would have been used for attaching a Lock.
