One of the largest and most impressive of the Gentiana genus. Tall spires of yellow star shaped flowers  on plants that can live over 50 years . Also known as "Bitter root" and is a prime ingredient in 'Angustora bitters' . Widely harvested across the world for its many herbal and medicinal uses , particularly stomach and intestinal disorders , and an important treatment as an intestinal 'booster' with many chronic diseases.

Enjoys an organically enriched soil in full sun or semi shade with adequate summer moisture. Bone hardy to frost and snow (not recommended for the tropics ) , and a highly desirable plant for the cool-climate garden.

 Germination can be erratic and slow and seed flats should not be discarded for 2 years.For best results sow seed from mid Autumn through until early Spring as the seed has some chilling requirements for good germination.
