Description

An oil on canvas painting by Joseph Wrightson McIntyre (1841-1897) entitled "Stoney Ridge Pass" which depicts a herdsman passing throuhg a tollgate with his flock of sheep in the snow.


A wonderfully atmospheric painting which has captured the dark mood of the snowstorm sky, the snow being swept up by the wind and a real feeling of the bitter cold the people were braving.

Set in a stunning ornate wooden gilt frame.

Lower left and dated 1884.

Private collection.


Condition:

Painting and frame both in excellent condition.

Biography:

Joseph Wrightson McIntyre was a painter of landscapes, coastal scenes and seascapes.  He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1871 and 1888 as well as at the British Institution and Society of British Artists.
