1889 Racinet LARGE FOLIO CHINA & JAPANESE ORNAMENT decorative
From: Das Polychrome Ornament by Auguste Racinet, published in 1889. Expressing history and culture in an ornamental style, this work has been used as a guide by Art Nouveau architects and serves as an inspiration for artists & designers to this day. Racinet and Owen Jones are the two great influences in decorative ornament. Each chromolithographic print measures approximately 11 1/4 by 16 1/4 inches on high-quality paper. The condition of the prints is very nice with only a little faint foxing on just a few of the plates, as shown. The prints are very decorative, with genuine gold and silver illumination on most.

Having studied at Oxford University in the early 1980s I was lucky enough to learn about the rare book trade by scuttling around the markets and auction houses of London at a time when it was still quite possible to discover "that find". Similarly I was able to hone my specialist interests in early photography, the history of science and Helvetica, something that I hope is still reflected in the items I offer.
