Olympic Mascot Equestrian Hologram Sports Card from the 1996 Centennial Summer Olympic Games held in Atlanta, USA. New. Shipping is fworldwide.

About the Series-The Izzy Competes for the Gold sports cards were produced by Imprinted Products, one of the top 1996 licensees for Atlanta Olympic pins and other products, for their limited edition lapel pin/card set. Each set contained an Izzy lapel pin and a sports card for each sport competed in Atlanta. Each card is 3 1/2" wide and 2 1/2" high with the same basic artwork as the lapel pin. The scan looks fuzzy because each card is a hologram with 2 different views of Izzy participating in the sport or discipline. Tilt the card slightly up for 1 view and slightly down for a 2nd view. Since the scans are flat scans, the card looks fuzzy. You see some of both scenes. The back of the card has a description and short history of the sport. All of our sports cards in this series are new and have never been packaged with the pins. A great find for Olympic collectors, these cards have become harder to find than the lapel pins. They look great framed ; with or without the pins. Our price is low enough for multiple purchases. These are perfect for trading or for Olympic theme birthday parties. They can be an inexpensive party favor to inform youth about the Olympics and Olympic Sports.

1996 Atlanta-The 1996 Games were given a dramatic start when the cauldron was lit by Muhammad Ali. On 27 July during a concert held in the Centennial Olympic Park, a terrorist bomb killed one person and injured a further 110 people, but the Atlanta Games are best remembered for their sporting achievements. A record-setting 79 nations won medals and 53 won gold. Carl Lewis became only the third person to win the same individual event four times and the fourth person to earn a ninth gold medal. Naim Suleymanoglu became the first weightlifter to win a third gold medal. Michael Johnson smashed the 200m world record to complete a 200m and 400m double.

1996 Atlanta Mascot-It was an amorphous abstract fantasy figure. Say what! It carried the name "Izzy", derived from "Whatizit?" because no one seemed to know exactly what "Izzy" really was. He changed his appearance several times after the Closing Ceremony in Barcelona in 1992. Over time he grew a mouth where only lips had existed, he added stars in his eyes, bulked up and gained muscles in his previously spindly legs, and eventually sprouted a nose. By the time the Opening Ceremonies began, Izzy had made thousands of public appearances and had become the world’s most famous mascot athlete. Izzy has become the most recognized and beloved Olympic Mascot. Since modern Olympic Committees seem to decide on multiple characters, Izzy will continue to be, along with Sam the Olympic Eagle from the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics, the most closely identified mascot with any Olympic Edition.
