Here is an unidentified antique item which looks to have Religious connections as well as Military connections.. it could well be neither.!
I will describe it the best I can. 
So its a wooden box ...the back box is seperate to the main front glass frame.. its a deep box.. diorama ... as the items inside are not flat.
The items inside are attached thru the back wood frame with 8 small bolts with nuts.. some nuts missing.
The front frame is wider and has 4 raised brass shaped buttons on the corners...it is glass fronted...this frame attaches at the top and bottom with small brass screws and I took these out so I could photograph the interior better....it also has two small brass snecks at the underside of the top frame glass...as I would think it only once had these so you could take it off...and look inside.
It is a varnished hard wood frame...and well made...a slight burn mark to the wood at the front bottom centre.
The inside of the bottom part has some mauve coloured velvet like material which is behind all the mounted silver and silver gilt items.
So to the items... right at the top a gilt square with a silvered button below this is silver bullion wire and hung from it are two tassels ..these are not material they are silver wire...spikey as you find on masonic aprons or religious regalia.
Then the main figure is silver coloured... he looks like a cherub or young boy wearing only a robe tied at the neck and covering the classic parts... he is holding a standard flag in his left hand its got a red  painted Cross of sorts on it. His right hand is out above an oval silver and gilt item .. this has Green & Clear PASTE STONES in it ...and a gilt central picture of a BOX with a bright Star or Sun radiating light onto it ...with dots marks around ... so its probably depicting a HOLY BOX.
The young boy is stood on a gilt plinth on top of the main bottom section... this could be depicting an actual Memorial COLUMN - STATUE as its square sided and raises up in tiers ... in gilt and silver metal.
So lets go from the bottom now.... it has this 3 dimensional silver coloured engraved base ... this has inset bottom corners.. the front section sticks out further.. steps out if you like.
The two corners are engraved with FLOWERS or PLANTS with 3 leaves.. above each corner is a gilt URN holding silver BRANCHES with LEAVES.. very life like.. these are not flat onto the velvet back.. this stick off.
Back to the bottom again now...so at the two stuck out stepped parts these have engraved PORTRAIT HEADS a Gent at the left wearing a Helmet ..side profile and a Lady on the right ..wearing a Crown ..it looks like a lady anyway....with engraved Foliage & Urn in the very centre on the silver coloured bottom bit.
Above this is a small silver coloured plaque which has gilt lined smalle columns at the sides.
The engraved wording on here is in Latin and says 
Ne Time: mane Cadero
ET ME DUCE, MAGNAM DE
Mauris reportabis victoriam.
Above this it has 2 silvered swirls at the sides and then a gilt rectangular raised - moulded design which has 2 Crossed Flags ...the left hand side one has the same CROSS in as the red flag above which the young boy is holding ..the other flag has small crescent like detail..... as well as the flags it has the long shafts of weapons SPEARS - TRUMPETS - SWORDS and a HAT in the very centre.
The main square gilt panel in the middle has 4 gilt square corners which have a FLOWER design and silver bands beteween them on the edges.
The main gilt picture is again moulded relief design and this is quite fascinating....an outdoor scene dating back to the Roman period ... a large tree at the right hand side and a soldier wearing a helmet is laid beneath it .... a larger figure above him is a Roman Centurion looking soldier with a larger helmet and robe giving comfort to the other person... in the back ground there are 7 other figures.. some of these being soldiers as well  with swords and shields ...other tree shrub to the left hand side and a Stork like Bird stood in the lower right corner.. as well as a LIZARD like creature climbing up the tree trunk the weary soldier is laid under. 
So there you have it... some of you may KNOW what this is depicting.. I do not know. 
It could well be a Classic Roman story - myth or Religious bible story ...what I do know is it is very well made and antique ..its not modern... you will see it has some areas of verdi gris on the silver colour and gilding too.
There are no hallmarks that I can see.. so I am assuming its just gilt and silvered base metal.
The frame is 10 inch wide x 15 inch long x 1 and half inch deep.
The Leaves and branches in the urns are 4 and ahlf inch tall and the young boy figure is nearly 3 inch tall....the stepped out bottom section is about 1/2 inch step.
The Latin engraved wording translates into
Do not be afraid, in the morning, I fell, and I was the leader, De Mauro will obtain the victory of the great.          


Someone did say it was a Spanish item but with Italian wording and related subject... so I dont know.!?
Its a MYSTERY.
