Here is a most interesting antique LAND TAX document....from the Georgian era... it is a large piece of paper which has been folded in half.. official with the printed sections and then hand filled in as well..it has been folded so has the County of WARWICK HUNDRED of KNIGHTLOW ...Certificate of the CONTRACT for the redemption of land tax... number 38752 EDWARD BEERE Napton 24 May... Duly Registered the 24th day of May 1799... signed by Mr Radcliffe .. other solicitor wording too...on the side which is usually facing up when its all folded up.
On the back is a table County of Warwick and DAYS OF PAYMENT ..only has the top lines filled in manuscript.
When opening the paper it has the official wording inside..a large COAT OF ARMS at the top left.. TAX OFFICE on the top scroll....KNOW ALL MEN .. That We .... The Reverend Benjamin Spencer Doctor of Laws and John Ludford Esquire Doctor of Laws ..... then the official wording printed once again... for the County of Warwick .... EDWARD BEERE of NAPTON in the County of Warwick ...ONE POUND NINE SHILLINGS land tax ...then it has a large section of empty space and more wording at the bottom...it goes on to say FIFTY THREE POUNDS THREE SHILLINGS AND NINE PENCE ...capitol stock...then at the bottom it has two stuck on COATS OF ARMS as the seals and signatures.
What a fabulous historical item if you are related to EDWARD BEERE.
It has been folded and does have some tiny holes on the folds.. raggy paper edge too..massive watermark... CRISPE & NEWMAN 1798 with a large CROWN over FLEUR DE LIS and intials GR below.
When folded open it is 15 x 19 inch.
Apologies if I have anything written down incorrect...as I cannot be as accurate with some of these type of documents as I would like to be.. I am happy to learn more from the folks that KNOW more than me...cheers..Lee.
