126 Piece SILVER ALBERT PATTERN CANTEEN of CUTLERY,

London 1968-75 by Langford Silver Galleries

PATTERN: Albert Pattern (12 place settings)

STERLING SILVER HALLMARKS: London 1968-1975 by Langford Silver Gallery

WEIGHT:  7100 grams (228.3 troy ounces) + 24 knives with stainless steel blades.

The Service

We are pleased to be offering an excellent quality flatware and cutlery service made in a very desirable pattern.

This is a rare opportunity to buy a complete and extensive silver 12 place settings canteen in Albert Pattern. The service provides for ten pieces per 12 place settings with 6 large serving spoons.

All the pieces were hand-wrought in the traditional manner and retailed in London by Langford Silver Galleries. All pieces bear the LSG makers mark and were made over a period of seven years between 1968 and 1975. Consequently there are two slightly different sizes for both the dessert and table forks (six of each size), this may have been deliberate to cater for the requirements of male and female guests. The fish set was bought in two halves too and so six fish forks have 3 prongs and the other six have 4 prongs, plus there is a minor difference to the pattern underneath the fish knife blades (see photo). These minor variations would not be noticed once the service is laid out on the table.

All the pieces are free from any personalised engraving and have crisp, double-struck decoration.

Albert Pattern

Albert pattern is considered a member of the King’s pattern family of flatware patterns. It has the same shape to the handle, although the style of decoration is completely different. The other shared feature with King’s pattern is the substantial gauge of silver required for the double-struck decoration (i.e. patterned to both sides) and the consequently hefty weight in the hand.

Albert Pattern was designed in the late 1830’s and named in honour of Queen Victoria’s husband, the Prince Consort. It is in the Victorian rococo revival style and is one of the most sought after patterns of the 19th century.
