Workmanship on this antique violin is good. The violin is unlabeled. The two-piece maple back measures 14 1/8" long, 8 3/8" across at the lower bout, and 6 9/32" across at the upper bout. The overall length of the violin is 23 3/8". The two-piece spruce top is narrow grained. Purfling is well done. Blocked in all four corners and fully lined. Finish is original and shows little wear. No bassbar or soundpost cracks. Some professional repairs already were done to this instrument. One hairline top crack is visible, about 1 1/2" long, in the lower bout on the bass side, running up from the purfling, repaired and posing no problem. No rib cracks. Treble rib has been reglued to top and bottom seams on lower bout. Button was repaired on the bass side. Neck joint, fingerboard, and peg box are solid (see pics). No soundpost, nut, bridge, tailpiece, strings or pegs. Inventory # 1284. No case or bow.
