In 1938 , immediately prior to the outbreak of World War 2 , Pupier Chocolates issued a series collection of cards featuring various countries of the world . After collecting a full series of cards , the album was submitted to the chocolate company in exchange for a free gift - usually something substantial such as a camera , vanity case or toy . To prevent the cards being re-submitted , these were then perforated with the letters cp and then returned to the collector together with the gift . Each country had its own mini - series of cards and here we have the 18 card mini-set covering Turkey in Asia . The cards each measure approx 2.5 ins x 2 ins on thick card with detailed rear text in French , including card number and product details . Given their history , the cards are obviously used and have the perforation marks described above . These are now very rare in complete groups and totaly original forming a historical record of the world as it existed in 1938 .
