Bio-Rad Digilab Division UMA 250 Infrared Microscope

For sale- a Bio-Rad Digilab Division UMA 250 Infrared Microscope.  It was attached to the side of a Bio-Rad FTIR Spectrometer when I bought it.  I took the scope off and brought it inside figuring with the scope removed I could carry in the spectrometer by itself, but that proved to be heavy as lead even with the scope removed, so that I think I will sell it separately.  I believe the spectrometer was an FTS-40, but again, it is NOT included in this sale.

The scope is fitted with a Bio-Rad 15x objective, 10x eyepieces, and an Olympus NFK  25x LD eyepiece on the trinocular part of the scope.  All the eyepieces are very dusty, so I have to assume the spectrometer has been sitting unused for quite awhile.  It is completely untested and NO warranty is offered.

However, IF you pay the asking price and find it has a problem you cannot live with within 14 days of receipt you may return it.  Returns are ONLY allowed on Buy It Now Purchases.  Accepted Best Offers are strictly an as is sale, no returns allowed.  Return would be for a refund of the purchase price, not including shipping costs.

Just so that we are clear on that, this is an item that has not been thoroughly tested.  As such it may work fine or it may have problems, so any purchase entails a certain degree of risk.  If you Buy It Now your risk is limited to the shipping costs both ways.  If you submit an offer you do so knowing that you cannot return it.  In either case it is up to you to decide whether the risk level is acceptable to you, and if not you need to pass on this particular item.

A label on the back shows it as assembly number 013-4684 Rev. A if that tells you anything.  When plugged in the light source lamp on the back does not come on, on closer examination part of the filament in the bulb is rolling around inside so at the very least you will need a new bulb for it.  And the nine pin male Detector Port on the back has taken a bit of a hit and will need to be repaired if that has to be connected to anything.  I believe you could straighten the outer shield and the one bent pin with needle nose pliers if you were careful.  Worst case the connector would have to be replaced, but it is attached to a removable plate so it shouldn’t be too difficult to accomplish.  The pictures of that part  of the back turned out fine, but somehow I managed to get the lamp cable in the way in every shot, so I will have to pull it out and take another picture or two and add that later.  While I have it out I will probably try my luck at straightening the connector up as well.

Please check out my other listings for more interesting lab, test, and optical equipment, including the FTS spectrometer in the not too distant future (I hope).  Check back often!

Sold as is, as described, as pictured.  Potential buyers are asked to please make sure you have read the listing carefully, and understand what you are buying.  Ebay’s condition codes for used items, which I am now required to select from, might imply a degree of functionality that my limited time, knowledge, and facilities do not allow me to ascertain.  If the functional condition of the item is known it will be stated as such in the listing.  Unless a warranty is specifically offered returns are not accepted regardless of any implied functionality.

You are also encouraged to visit my “ME” page, where my terms, conditions, and philosophy of doing business are outlined.  I don’t think anything there is outside the bounds of normal e-commerce, but they are binding on the transaction.

Payment is expected within 7 days of the close of the sale and I need to hear from you within 3 days to confirm the transaction.  Because of the weight and/or bulk of the item I have chosen to let ebay’s shipping calculator figure out the cost based on your zip code.  Alternatively I would be happy to ship it charged to your Fedex account.  I will under NO circumstances ship it UPS, the people there don’t seem to be smart enough to handle a shipment charged to the recipients account, nor do they appear to be smart enough to correct their mistake after the fact.
