DESCRIPTION:

A solid ebony wood box with its original satin lining. It measures 6 inches wide, 4 inches deep and 2.5 inches tall, internal dimensions are 4.75 inches wide, 3 inches deep and 0.75 inches tall.

This extremely slow growing hardwood was imported from British India and was a popular vanity set material with both men and women from around the turn of the century to the mid 1920s, when the timber became too rare and expensive to be economically viable. These ebony relics of the period have been highly prized ever since.

CONDITION:

The ebony is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks, it has a very high polish. The velvet lining is intact and in good condition with no staining. The hinge is in good working order.
