DESCRIPTION:

An solid ebony wood bottle case with a screw topped lid, silver embellishment and its original glass perfume bottle and stopper. The silver has a vacant cartouche surrounded with decorative engravings, it is hallmarked London 1925, with the makers mark for William Robertson. The case measures 3.25 inches tall, 1.75 inches in diameter and has 'EBONY' stamped to the base.

This extremely slow growing hardwood was imported from British India and was a popular vanity set material with both men and women from around the turn of the century to the mid 1920s, when the timber became too rare and expensive to be economically viable. These ebony relics of the period have been highly prized ever since.
