DESCRIPTION:

An attractively shaped antique solid ebony wood jewellery or trinket box with a hinged lid. It measures 5.75 inches wide, 3 inches deep and 2.75 inches tall, the internal dimensions are 4.75 inches wide, 2 inches deep and 1 inch tall. It has 'EBONY' stamped to the base.


This extremely slow growing hardwood was imported from British India and was a popular vanity set material with both men and women from around the turn of the century to the mid 1920s, when the timber became too rare and expensive to be economically viable. These ebony relics of the period have been highly prized ever since.


CONDITION:

There is a minor chip to the front right foot, otherwise the ebony is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks, it has a very high polish. The hinges are in fine working order.
