As you can see in the pictures, there are a few dings and scratches to be expected with a used unit, but it works! See the movie in the picture. The LD door stuck the first time I powered it up, but now works well.

Pioneer's DVL-919 is one of the few laserdisc (LD) players available to hard core videophiles, some of whom still prefer the analog-video format to DVD's compressed digital video. Fortunately, the DVL-919 accommodates both formats. If you're searching for a replacement LD player and you're just getting your feet wet in the DVD-Video world, the DVL-919 is ideal. It's loaded with videophile features, including component-video outputs, 10-bit video processing, and a three-line digital comb filter.
For audiophiles, the DVL-919 includes 24-bit digital-to-analog converters and offers Dolby Digital and Digital Theater Sound (DTS) outputs. It combines two great video formats into one machine. The DVL-919 plays your collection of DVD's AND LaserDiscs, with high-end DA converters, video noise reduction, and Viterbi error correction for superb playback. This is a great player that can watch both sides without having to flip the disc over. It has frame by frame playback so you don't need to buy CAV discs. It will frame-by-frame any Laserdisc. The pause feature shows a picture, not a blue screen like other players. Unlike other combo players, the picture is great, and all the features are as good as a stand-alone unit. Pioneer was the best at making players and this player succeeds in every aspect.
The video output is composite so it is equal to a progressive scan DVD player. For audiophiles, the AC-3 output is very desirable for older digital surround receivers with built in demodulators. The DVL-919 does one better by offering Dolby Digital/DTS decoding and Hi-Bit conversion for truly powerful and dramatic soundtrack performances. In my opinion, the Laserdisc sound quality is better than a DVD or Blu-ray, due to the compression and size difference between them. If sound quality is important to you, then you understand why a great Laserdisc pressing has no equal.
