STELLAR FANTASTIC!
GOLDEN HOLLYWOOD!
UP FOR SALE is one of the finest posters ever designed. It's an original Movie Theater one-sheet (approx. 27x41 inches) made to advertise the original release of Saratoga back in 1937.
Back
in the late 1980's or early '90s there was a find of Leader Press posters that
were saved by the original printer. Leader Press was an Oklahoma based company
that designed alternative, high-class, better designed posters for movie theaters to use. It's a good thing
in this case, because MGM didn't do such a great job on their Saratoga posters.
Because of the now famous find, collectors got to see more than a good number
of the different posters designed by the company. This one is considered by FAR
the best design they ever did. Not only that, it's one of the most striking
posters ever designed anywhere on the planet. It’s from the peak of Hollywood's
Golden era, which makes it especially interesting. There’s NO question Andy
Warhol would be jealous! Three decades after this poster was printed he would dedicate much of his
talents towards popularizing a similar style within his silkscreen renderings.
It's hard not to argue that this is an AMAZING find, and, an important piece of
historic movie art! If you’re looking for a poster that represents the best of
Hollywood style and grace, not to mention class - THIS IS IT! It doesn't
get any nicer, and, it doesn't get any better.
Recently, a live auction house sold a 1-sheet on Red Headed Women with Harlow that's almost as stylish as this poster. It sold for a whopping $80,000! It's not as rare as this poster -or- in nearly as nice condition. I've priced this at a tiny fraction of what that poster sold for.
This poster is also a dream in terms of
condition – it’s in an amazing MINT/NearMINT original untouched condition! The poster has had NO restoration, and for a
poster that's nearly 80 years old, it's stunning beyond compare. You won't be
disappointed. It's also the only known original to exist. If you
like true 1-of-a-kind originals and enjoy having something nobody else has this, then
this fits that bill. It serves as a great tribute to Harlow, as she suddenly, and tragically, died shortly before the filming concluded on this picture - right
at the height of her career! I'm sure that's why the poster artist came up with
such an extra special design. This would be a proud piece for any collection.
I've certainly felt more than proud on more than several occasions when viewing
this in person.
The poster has been stored flat for at least 20 years.
However, I'll be mailing it rolled between protective paper in a special crush-proof tube.
