Vintage Chinese Coconut Candy Container Hainan Island China 1930s RCN Sailor Item.

Scarce Coconut Shell Candy container from Hainan Island China,
dating from 1920s to 1930s.This dates prior to 1939.(Japanese Invasion WW2)
This is out of a RCN Canadian Navy Sailors collection of items.Sailor was named W.M.Link and
his name is on tape on bottom of container.He served on Canadian ship HMCS Inch Arran.
The shell is marked,"Pearl River Brand Coconut Candy Made in Hainan Island China"
Many Chinese Characters above English writting.The lettering has been filled with golden
paint.Some of the gold lettering has been worn away.
The back side has carved Palm Trees with golden embossing aswell.
The container is 4 3/4 inches in diameter and stands 4 1/4 inches tall.
The opening at the top is 2 1/8 inches in diameter.
No lid with container.One small edge crack at opening,repaired and hardly noticeable.
Condition is very nice.Not crushed or damaged.Has multi toned color to outside shell.
Overall in very nice condition.
History:
Hainan Island is China's smallest province and the most southern part of China.It was invaded
in February 1939 by Japanese Army and was occupied till August 1945.
