What a beautiful example of a black leather Stanley Nursing bag from around 1918.  WOW! A rare find! Perfect for someone who loves war antiques.  It is made of black seal grain cowhide, heavystock. Handles turned and hemstitched. Stitching on handle is coming apart in places. On one side "HD 4" was written in white.

The information below is from a 1918 advertisement showing this bag:
The Black Stanley Nursing Bag was introduced for home visiting and became the hallmark identity as public health nursing advanced.
The black nursing bag contained soap and towels for handwashing, alcohol, tape measure, blood pressure apparatus and stethoscope, thermometers, bags and folded newspaper, an apron, hand scales, thumb forceps, kelly clamps, a small enamel pan, tongue blades, cotton swabs and cotton balls. The black bag was lighter than the brown bag and served well as a teaching tool." The last photo shows a photo of a nurse from the war holding a similar bag.
