This beautiful large piece has been made from snow-white, medium-weight cotton thread - square shaped.

This style of knitting lace does not seem to have developed until the late 18th century. It became extremely popular during the 19th century. Doilies like this was knitted on "five, fine, slightly curved, barbed needles". 

  The workmanship is perfect, worked with a professional precision -  please check all pictures for the intricate details and impeccable condition.
