This is a Gibson Barney Kessl tailpiece, that came from an early 60s “Custom” model with gold plate. It is structurally in beautiful condition. It has a smooth look to it, with A LOT of the gold worn off to the nickel underplating. It could be used successfully on a BK Regular or Custom, and can “pass” as nickel or gold. This one is so nice I have had it in a parts drawer for ten years wating for a BK to come along….I am now liquidating a lot of my personal collection. This is the best of the best.
The hinge is in perfect shape…no issues. Has the longer cloverleaf tail so that it can be used on thicker jazz boxes. On the hinge, you will note what looks to be black smudges....that is a revealed layer of plating. It is just natural relic wear. You could possibly polish it out. I thought the entire tailpiece looked so relic-natural I have not touched it in any way. If I remember right it came form a 1964 Custom.
The rosewood badge is vintage excellent condition, as is the name plate.
If you have a jazz box you are customizing, like a 1950's es 350 - this would make a cool addition. Great quality vintage tailpiece.
Great example.
