Correct for some 1970s and early 1980s Gibson cases...see last pic: a 1984 Les Paul case with red interior
Auction includes handle and 2 NICKEL SILVER mounting axle pins. ....allows you to retain your original hardware plates on some cases.
Check out the pics and measurements before bidding please! This is a "NOS" USA-made vintage handle...limited quantity....these have been out of production for decades.
This is a “pre-Nashville” Gibson replacement
handle.....with 2 TKL axles....allows you to retain your pre-existing hardware
on the Gibson-Lifton cases and reissue cases from the 1970's on, when nickel
hardware was used ....for the Les Paul model, SG, L6, and es 335 model case,
etc. ....looks great! When you are
finished, you can barely tell it was replaced. Also works great on older 60's
cases!
These were made in the USA....no longer available!! The axle type is the 'spinning' type. If you are concerned if this will fit your
pre-exisiting hardware, send me a pic of your case.
BLACK HANDLE COMES WITH TKL NICKEL FINISH SPINNING AXLES.
See close up pic of the axles......open ends are ball-peined
to close...see directions below
Case handle is excellent quality molded plastic. I have used these to restore many cases with good results.
Please confirm your measurement requirement before bidding: Measuring from center of leg to center of
leg is 4 and 1/4 inches...this is a perfect replacement for some of the reissue
cases...may be able to be used on other years of the Gibson-Lifton cases when
you require a handle that is approximately 4.25 (Measuring from mounting
bracket to center of mounting bracket).
This kit allows you to retain the original case hardware on
some cases, if it is still there! Please measure your case hardware before
bidding; measure from center of hardware to center of hardware. The type of axle included is the 'spinning'
type. (Does not fit the heavier
old-style Lifton brackets that use a 'fixed' axle). Email me with a pic of your case if you are
unsure!
SHOP TALK: AXLE PIN INSTALLATION
AXLE PIN INSTALLATION (Spinning axles): Cut off the old pins if they are still there, with wire-cutters. Insert the new pin into the handle and hardware on the case. The open end of the axles should both face to the INSIDE of the handle. Hold a counter weight or small anvil on the opposite end of the axle than what you are tapping on. Use a ballpein hammer to lightly tap around the edges of the pin end that is open. You are basically creating a 'burr' that locks the pin. Continue tapping around the edges until it evenly folds down and looks like the other end. When you are done, both ends will look about the same with a head that is larger than the original hole, locking the pin in place.
Word of Caution: DO NOT HAMMER THE END because the pin can bend. Light tapping is required and it takes a little time. It will give a professional result if you take your time and use light tapping around the opening.
On cases that have the original brackets mounted at extreme angles on the upper and lower bouts (where the brackets seem to point in different directions), this handle gives you a little bit better chance of having a fit, since the holes in each leg are oval in shape, giving you some wiggle room to mount at odd angles. Some cases with brackets mounted at extreme planes are difficult to fit. Email pictures if you are unsure..i will always try to help you get a handle back on your case!
