Breakthrough 1985 Album Charted Three Great Singles

Australian Band Finds Its Groove With Bluesy Grooves, Pop Hooks

Includes “What You Need,” “Listen Like Thieves,” and “Kiss the Dirt”

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI

True to the title of the record’s smash single, INXS gives you what you need on Listen Like Thieves. Originally released in 1985, the breakthrough album marked the group’s deserved entrance into the mainstream radio sphere and commercial charts. With its sound honed from prior records, INXS develops an enviably balanced combination of dance grooves, bluesy persuasion, acoustic framing, and pop bluster on this batch of supremely catchy fare, equally memorable for its melodic nature and stylistic fusion.

Working with producer Chris Thomas (John Cale, Pete Townshend, Roxy Music), INXS expands its versatility and reach. Vocalist Michael Hutchence, too, comes into his own, singing more confidently, soulfully, and warmly than in the past. While avoiding cheap imitation, the Aussies turn to the Rolling Stones as influences, churning out thick riffs and slithering rhythms that aim for the hips and stimulate the feet. Hutchence splits the difference between the sexual bravado of Mick Jagger and primal depth of Jim Morrison, and in doing so, establishes himself as an original who’s always careful not to overdo anything or overstay his welcome.

Bolstered by a series of can’t-miss singles—the swaggeringly funky “What You Need,” sharp thrust of "Listen Like Thieves", and wistful “Kiss the Dirt”—Listen Like Thieves teems with glorious hooks and intertwining instrumentation that cross-pollinates jazz, R&B, new-wave, and pub rock. Honking saxophone lines surge throughout, punctuating the spare chords and driving bridges with an insouciant edge missing from most of the decade’s pop. A knack for atmospheric production also plays a large role. On “Shine Like It Does,” a majestic moodiness takes hold, while “This Time” gives U2 a run for its money.

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity’s world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI, Silver Series’ numbered limited edition LP significantly enhances the midband, textural qualities, and ample spaciousness—all previously boxed-in on prior editions. The character of the bass notes, as well as the depth and breathiness of the vocals are also noticeably improved, bringing out the music’s personality and dynamics like never before.

Los Lobos By The Light Of The Moon Numbered, Limited Edition! Half-Speed AUDIOPHILE Mastered from the Original Master Tapes Pressed at RTI!

Mellowed-Out 1987 Album Showcases Band’s Contemplative Side and Virtuosic Musicianship

Los Lobos’ Sophomore LP Established Group as World’s Most Diversified, Capable Ensemble: A Perfect Record

Soulful Ballads, Roots R&B, Fiery Funk, Spiritual Folk Pepper Phenomenal LP

Los Lobos might have touted themselves as “just another band from East L.A.,” but it’s quite likely that even the group’s humble members recognized that few — if any — other artists in the late 1980s rivaled their soulful music, rousing performances, and eclectically blended arrangements. While lacking the commercial status of the quintet’s subsequent La Bamba release, By the Light of the Moon stands as the band’s most enjoyable excursion into American-hued soul, penetratingly reflective lyrics, and earnest roots rock. The music making is simply extraordinary.

Mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelity’s numbered limited edition 180g LP brings these 11 songs to life and out of the clouded, foggy sonic environment in which they’ve remained for more than two decades. For the first time, T Bone Burnett’s stripped-back production functions as it should. Namely, Los Lobos sound as if they’re playing at a small, sweaty neighborhood joint late on a Sunday night for an audience of locals, friends, and family.

The group’s uncanny ability to switch between instruments and effortlessly play each as if it’s their innate right — listen to the seamless fashion in which electric and acoustic guitars, marimbas, organs, saxophones, harmonicas, and percussion create strikingly memorable soundscapes — comes to light amidst a warmer, airier, more organic and deep-black background. David Hidalgo’s sweet, honeysuckle timbre, he and Cesar Rosas’ overlapping tremolo guitars, and stacks of interwoven rhythms jump with vibrant electricity.

Shifting into storytelling mode, Los Lobos use By the Light of the Moon as an opportunity to meditate on everyday America and channel the fate of normal communities. Issues of faith, mortality, love, disillusionment, and melancholy inform narratives that are on the same socially conscious level as those of period-era Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp. As for the songs, they crackle, waltz, shuffle, dance, tremble, and kick. The band almost dares listeners not to care.

Whether leaning into twangy two-step country-rock (“One Night In America”), dual-guitar shootout rockabilly (“Shakin’ Shakin’ Shakes”), swinging jump R&B (“Is This All There Is?”), tequila-spiked East Los Angeles-style rock (“Set Me Free (Rosa Lee)”), searing Latin-tinged blues (“My Baby’s Gone”), or poignant gospel-lined folk (“River of Fools”), Los Lobos’ Tex-Mex gumbo continually impresses and delights.

Don’t pass up one of the best releases of the 1980s and one of Los Lobos’ definitive statements. You’ll never hear a better pressing. Boleros, rancheros, and more await!

Billy Joel An Innocent Man Numbered Limited Edition 45rpm 180 GRAM 2LP SET

INDIVIDUALLY Numbered, Limited 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE 45rpm LIMITED Edition!
Half-Speed Mastered From Original Master Tapes! Pressed at RTI!

Infectious Doo-Wop, carefree Soul, harmonious Pop give testament to the music of Billy Joel's childhood.  This Mobile Fidelity reissue allows you to hear this pleasing set with fresh ears!

Another blockbuster by Joel this 1983 album became seven-times platinum and includes "Uptown Girl", "For the Longest Time", "An Innocent Man", and "Tell Her About It".

After making The Nylon Curtain, Billy Joel felt the need to exhale and get back to the carefree music of his childhood. He also met supermodel Christie Brinkley, who brought serious degrees of levity and romance to his world. In love, relaxed, and out to have fun, the singer crafted An Innocent Man, arguably the most easygoing and pleasing album of his career. Featuring four Top 40 pop singles and the same number of Top 5 Adult Contemporary hits to grace the Billboard charts, the record remains a commercial staple.

An essential title in Mobile Fidelity’s Billy Joel catalog restoration series, An Innocent Man is mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g LP at RTI.  The effervescent harmonies now possess an airiness and extension that lends to realistic tonal decay. Instruments are balanced and placed on a wider, deeper soundstage, contributing improved to improved imaging and spaciousness. Joel’s voice, too, comes across with tremendous clarity, presence, and body. These songs have never sounded so contagious.

Per usual, Joel proves a melodic jukebox. The vocalist’s grasp on structure, hooks, and delivery help make this batch of songs among his most beloved, easy to hum, and impossible to ignore. Much of the appeal resides in Joel’s understanding of the early rock and roll, doo-wop, and soul that he grew up hearing in New York, and the manners in which the popular songwriters favored simplicity over complexity, good-natured vibes over seriousness, and romantic charm over introspective sadness.

Whether floating on a cloud on the giddy “Uptown Girl” (check out his falsetto), doubling as both the lead and background vocalist on the reminiscent-themed “The Longest Time,” or tapping gospel undercurrents on the tribute “Keeping the Faith,” Joel revels in 50s and 60s pop constructs, turning out amiable refrains and unforgettable moods. Love perfumes the air, and Joel can’t get enough, and it's a feeling he passes on to his listeners.

As the calm before stormier periods in his life, and a timeless connection to America’s finest pop music traditions, An Innocent Man is indeed innocent—a guiltless pleasure that keeps on giving.

James Taylor Dad Loves His Work on Numbered Limited Edition 180g LP from Mobile Fidelity

Taylor's Emotional Juggernaut and Musical Marvel Simmers With Honesty, Conviction

Half-Speed Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: 1981 Classic Has Never Sounded So Real

Contemplative Record Contains Some of Best Songwriting of Taylor's Career

Recorded amidst a failing marriage, ongoing heroin addiction, alcohol dependency, and a sense of fading commercial prowess, James Taylor’s Dad Loves His Work is an emotional juggernaut and musical marvel. Long considered a classic of the singer-songwriter domain, the 1981 effort stands as Taylor’s last real “great” album and an involving aural artwork that simmers with honesty, conviction, and feeling.

Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelity’s numbered limited-edition 180g LP marks the first time this classic has been properly remastered. Far exceeding the sonics of Sony’s CD reissue, this audiophile version lifts up the cover on a world of sound, with Taylor’s mellow finger-picked guitar melodies, gently reassuring vocals, and bittersweet deliveries brought to the fore. Listeners will also be able to relax amidst the soft clouds of comforting background singing by ace guests Jennifer Warnes, J.D. Souther, and Peter Asher.

With the title reflecting the singer’s answer to his then-wife, Carly Simon, Dad Loves His Work remains a statement of certainty and priority that Taylor invests with devastating poignancy, physiological soulfulness, and universal pathos. Balancing the biting edginess and forlorn despair with equal parts self-deprecating humor and rapier wit, Taylor’s songwriting on such nuggets as “Hard Times,” “Hour That the Morning Comes,” and charged “Stand and Fight” is among the best of his career.

No surprise, then, that Taylor wasn’t only looking at and reflecting upon his own life, but that of his relationship with his own father and ancestors. The emotional repercussions involved with such looming themes trickle through the harmony-laden music, spurred by the vocalist’s trademark acoustic guitar, shivering harmonicas, Rhodes pianos, myriad percussive devices, and tasteful synthesizer passages.

Taylor’s definitive duet with Souther on “Her Town Too” bridged both the pop and adult-contemporary charts, catapulting Dad Loves His Work in the Top Ten and past sales of one million copies. Similarly, Taylor expands his horizons on the politically motivated “Sugar Trade,” co-written by Jimmy Buffett.

Mobile Fidelity’s collectible audiophile 180g LP brings you into Taylor’s private world with unparalleled intensity and extreme closeness. Taylor feels every word he sings on this record, and now, thanks to meticulous remastering efforts, his expressiveness and sensitivity coming through via unencumbered transparency and dynamic acoustics. This edition of Dad Loves His Work is not to be missed!

"Mobile Fidelity's mastering hits the sonic nail on the head tonally, dynamically and spatially so if this is one of your Taylor faves—and it has its fans—you will be happy with this reissue." - Michael Fremer, Music 8/10, Sound 9/10

Men At Work Cargo Numbered MFSL Limited Edition LP

Numbered, Limited Edition! Pressed at RTI!

A New-Wave Touchstone: 1983 Sophomore Album Picks Up on Momentum of Band’s Debut

Contains Top 10 Hits “It’s A Mistake” and “Overkill”

Spectacular Sonics: Mastered on Mobile Fidelity’s World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI

Men at Work already had an album in the Top Ten when the Australian ensemble released Cargo, which continued the momentum gained by its record-setting debut. As ambitious and even more diversified than its initial salvo, the 1983 effort firmly established the band as new-wave pioneers—a group whose goofy playfulness, sharp hooks, brass accents, and memorable choruses helped define the decade’s landscape. Any doubts about Men At Work’s quirky sensibility were promptly answered by the iconic cover art gracing this multi-platinum set.

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity’s world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI, this LP not only brings the artwork back into full-scale glory but also takes the enjoyably melodic pop-rock to new sonic heights courtesy of improved imaging, separation, and balance. Previously obscured details jump to the surface, and leader Colin Hay’s unique voice takes on life-like dimensions that hover between the speakers.

While remaining true to the approach that garnered them a Grammy Award for Best New Artist, Men at Work expands the creative palette on Cargo by giving guitars a more prominent role and increasing the rhythmic textures. With the sweeping ballad “Overkill” and politically savvy cynicism of “It’s a Mistake,” the band furthered their radio domination and extended their run of Top 10 singles. A third hit, “Dr. Heckyll and Mr. Jive,” cracked the Top 30. Well-tailored melodies and whimsical imagination definitely had a place in the public’s consciousness, and no group understood this more.

As the final album captured by the original lineup, Cargo remains an indelible piece of the 1980s audio terrain and a reminder of the era’s endless fun. Bolstered by lively saxophone solos, self-effacing humor, and instantly catchy refrains, the album is as good an excuse as any to turn on the stereo, sit down, forget your worries, and dance to leisurely pursuits so perfectly captured by this beloved group.

This didn't produce as many hits as many of his other albums, but I thought it was nearly as good, although it's more experimental in places. The most famous song is "Don't Come Around Here No More" with its sitars creating a slightly psychedellic angry rocker with a slow beat, that changes to a fast, harder one at the end.

Also, who could forget that weird Alice In Wonderland takeoff video? The more typical, Lynyrd Skynyrd styled, fun southern rocker "Rebels" was a hit that should've been bigger. "Make It Better (Forget About Me)" was an almost New Wave kind of fast, jumpy catchy song that also was a minor hit. The other songs are pretty good too, even if they're not what you'd expect from Tom.

The catchy, mid-tempo pop/rocker "Dogs On The Run" is another song that could've been on one of his earlier albums. Also there's a couple really good ballads here. The soft, emotional title track talks about southern life, and mention's Tom's mother, who died shortly before this album was made "Full Moon Fever" and everything afterwards has more of a middle-aged, less rocking, modern day Bob Dylan sound.

This is right in the middle of those periods. Southern Accents is strangely one of Petty`s best records, but with the least amount of hits coming out. "Southern Accents" is probably one of the most beautiful songs Tom Petty ever has made. It is a lonely and moody piano, expressing the purest thing in the musical world, just a man and his closest friend, his instrument. All the songs on the album has their own style, none are alike, and this makes "Southern Accents" Tom Petty`s most varied album ever. And one of his strongest.

SIMPLY RED - MEN AND WOMEN - OUT OF PRINT SINCE 1987 - WEA/WARNER BROTHERS RECORDS - PRESSED IN GERMANY - LONG OUT OF PRINT ISSUE AND TREMENDOUSLY RARE STILL SEALED.

FACTORY SEALED LP analog vinyl pressing – the way music was meant to be heard. Fans of Sly Stone, Average White Band, Sade, and Swing Out Sister, to name a few, will all find something appealing about Simply Red's sophomore release, "Men And Women", originally released in 1987. After enjoying a worldwide smash and instant standard in the single "Holding Back The Years", the temptation to produce a clone had to be on the band's mind. That clone is "Maybe Someday...", but let's put that aside a moment.

Delightfully, the rest of the album finds the band confident, exploratory, and exuberant. Lyrically, Mick Hucknall has love on the mind. Specifically, the lustful kind. The working class Brit viewpoint, especially on matters of the heart, is still intact and at its zenith here. The band sounds incredible too. From horns, piano, synth, and hearty background vocal, these are just the right bandmates to match Hucknall's take-no-prisoners mood.

The songs : "The Right Thing", a fine eighties pop tune. "Infidelity", an ode to that cheating mood. "Let Me Have It All", hands-down funk exercise a la AWB and Sly. "Love Fire", touches elements of reggae and ska. "Move On Out" and "Shine", smooth soul with slinky minor chords.

The good news : there's not a dud in the bunch, and this import adds six more tracks to the original album.

The bad news : the US didn't take to "Men And Women" as this great work merited. "The Right Thing" scraped the top forty; the rest was virtually forgotten. It put Simply Red in the position of slicking it up way too far on their next release, "A New Flame". The reward was another #1 in the form of a tame Philly soul cover on a tame release.

Here, they weren't yet playing safe, the results are spectacular. I'm not big on giving anything 5 stars, but I have no reservations about how highly I recommend this to fans of true soul music.

Simple Minds New Gold Dream: 81-82-83-84 UNIVERSAL RE-ISSUE OF THIS 1982 RELEASE

Includes "New Gold Dream" & "Promised You A Miracle!"

New Gold Dream is the fifth album by the celebrated Caledonian rockers. Released in 1982, it is widely considered to be a turning point for the band, a bridge between their post punk roots and stadium-filling destiny, and gathered enormous critical acclaim as well as impressive sales. Listed in the estimable tome ‘1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die’ New Gold Dream was a discernible move toward a more a commercial sound and it entered the UK chart at number 3, yielding the hit singles Promised You a Miracle and Glittering Prize.

The latter track and the synth-heavy Someone Somewhere in Summertime in particular represented a shift towards undisguised pop and it’s also worth noting that Hunter and Hunted features a solo by Jazz keyboardist Herbie Hancock, a rare distinction for any rock/pop album.

"Every band or artist with a history has an album that's their holy grail," remarked lead singer Jim Kerr. "I suppose New Gold Dream was ours. It was a special time because we were really beginning to break through with that record, both commercially and critically. The people that liked that record connected with it in a special way. There was a depth to it: it created its own mythology. It stood out.”

The artwork caused quite stir due to its religious imagery, so much so that on the version released in Yugoslavia, the cross was removed. Jim Kerr reflected "[During the writing of the album] we often went for walks. Around Perth you find a lot of Celtic crosses, crosses that seem to spring up from the earth. We thought it was a very powerful symbol. They were in the ground which produced the water we drank, so why not?"

ABC'S LEXICON OF LOVE 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION LP

ABC's debut album, coming out in 1982 among a flurry of post-disco/Brit new wave acts, linked ABC with bands like Spandau Ballet, Human League, Culture Club, Kajagoogoo, Gary Numan, Scritti Politti and Howard Jones.

ABC's debut album combined the talents of the Sheffield, U.K.-based band, particularly lead singer Martin Fry, a fashion plate of a frontman with a Bryan Ferry fixation, and the inventive production style of former Buggles member Trevor Horn and his team of musicians, several of whom would go on to form the Art of Noise. Horn created dense tracks that merged synthesizer sounds, prominent beats, and swaths of strings and horns, their orchestrations courtesy of Anne Dudley, who would follow her work with the Art of Noise by becoming a prominent film composer, and who here underscored Fry's stylized romantic lyrics and dramatic, if affected, singing. The production style was dense and noisy, writes AllMusic, but frequently beautiful, and the group's emotional songs gave it a depth and coherence later Horn works, such as those of Yes ("Owner of a Lonely Heart") and Frankie Goes to Hollywood, would lack.

Fry and company used the sound to create moving dancefloor epics like "Many Happy Returns," which, like most of the album's tracks, deserved to be a hit single. (In the U.K., four were: "Tears Are Not Enough," "Poison Arrow," "The Look of Love," and "All of My Heart," the last three making the Top Ten; in the U.S., "The Look of Love" and "Poison Arrow" charted Top 40.)

SHAKIN STEVENS - THE TRACK YEARS - AVI RECORDS - 8713 ORIGINAL ISSUE FROM 1983 - the Popabilly crooner. Shakin' Steven's can truly claim the '80s, in chart terms, were his. Indeed he spent more time on the UK chart than any other artist during that decade, racking up no less than 27 top 30 hits of which four hit the top spot and a further seven breached the Top 5. He's sold in excess of a staggering seven million singles to date. A loyal, predominantly female fan base ensured 'Shaky's' success and it's one that puts him in with the Beatles and Elton John who can claim the same chart domination for the '60s and the '70s respectively -  I went to ALBUM Universe and listened to clips from one of Shakin' Stevens' other collected works.

This ALBUM blew me out! His music is similar to that of Marshall Crenshaw, from the same the same period, early to mid-80s. But Shakin' Stevens was a REAL ROCKER. He was a chart-topper throughout the whole 80's in the UK, Australia, and most of Europe/Scandinavia. Never caught on in the States.
The music is consuming, energetic. His voice is expressive, engaging. He makes you wanna not only tap your feet, but clap your hands and bop around the room!!! Song after song!!! You, too, will be a-swayin' and a-SHAKIN'.... and a-singin' along.

TRACKS ARE - SOMEBODY TOUCH ME - JUST WALKING IN THE RAIN - REBOUND - YOU ALWAYS HURT THE ONE YOU LOVE - WAY DOWN YONDER IN NEW ORLEANS

The song became an unexpected US hit[5] for the band, reaching number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, which Chris Difford attributed to the video for the song as much as the song itself  A second song released in the US later in the year, "853-5937", also landed at number 32 on the US Hot 100.

This is George Thorogood at his best, cookin' hot and heavy. It was made just before he broke onto the charts as a huge star, and the music here shows why he soared into national prominence. His youthful hormones combined perfectly with the emotional content of the blues, and what happened was a hot-rockin' disc. "I'm Wanted" gets your attention right away, and a bunch of good-time music follows on its heels, including a really blazing rendition of "House of Blue Lights." If you like George Thorogood, but you've listened to his big hits too many times and want something different but really good, this should fill the bill nicely. Up-tempo, feel-good, high-energy rock.

MICHAEL BOLTON - THE HUNGER - 1987 CBS/COLUMBIA RECORDS FC-40473 ISSUE LONG OUT OF PRINT AND COULD BE ONE OF A THE LAST SEALED COPIES LEFT IN THE WORLD -  Michael Bolton's decision to put his powerful and soulful voice to its best commercial use. He had already proven himself a great rock singer with Blackjack as well as with his first two solo albums. Instead of beating the proverbial dead horse of the AOR spectrum, he chose to sing in a fashion that would earn him chart-topping singles and albums, Grammy nominations, and the freedom to explore other genres he had passion for. If he has chose to spin his wheels in the mainstream rock world, he never would have had the acclaim or opportunity to sing alongside such greats as Percy Sledge, Ray Charles, Patti LaBelle and Luciano Pavarotti.

Now, to this particular album. The songs shine with expert musicianship, compliments of the better part of the band Journey. Great melodic hooks and harmonies reign throughout. "That's What Love Is All About" is a pop lyrical masterpiece with a message that many people can relate with, and it is sung to absolute perfection. "The Hunger" is an album that has something for both Bolton's melodic rock and pop fan bases, and was a critical turning point in his highly successful and hard-earned career.

The thing I liked most about Robert Palmer was his ability to be original and diverse. "Addictions, Vol. 1" encapsulates his unique talent, a talent that was underrated and will be missed by all his fans. One listen to this ALBUM and you can easily tell that you are listening to a one of a kind musical stylist. You have all of his big hits with the exclusion of "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On" and "Get It On (Bang A Gong)" (which appeared on "Addictions, Vol. 2" in 1992).

"Addiction's Vol. 1" is the perfect collection. You have Robert Palmer the rock and roller on "Bad Case Of Loving You", "Addicted To Love", "Simply Irresistable" and "Some Like It Hot". You have Robert Palmer the World Music maestro on "Pride", "Woke Up Laughing" and "What's It Take?" You have Robert Palmer the new wave specialist on tracks "Looking For Clues", "Johnny & Mary" and "Style Kills". You have Robert Palmer the crooner on "Sweet Lies", "Some Guys Have All The Luck" and one of his most timeless pieces of work "Every Kinda People".    Remember a sophisticated and admirable talent such as Robert Palmer. Out of Print FACTORY SEALED Analog LP with small cutout hole on jacket but contains all the original LP picture sleeve and inserts.

By 1985, Duran Duran were kings of the pop world, and instead of releasing another album right away, they took a break and ventured into "splinter" groups. Nick, Simon, and Roger formed Arcadia, while John and Andy hooked up with Robert Palmer and Tony Thompson for the Power Station. The result is this debut album that sounds nothing like Duran Duran. While much of the attention went to John and Andy Taylor, I have to agree that the real stars were underrated drummer Tony Thompson and vocalist Robert Palmer. "Some Like it Hot," "Communication," and "Murderess" are guitar-fueled pop numbers that work mainly due to Tony's excellent drumming and Andy Taylor's guitar work. Their covers are tremendous system testers. The cover of T. Rex's "Get it On," will work your speakers to death and "Harvest for the World."   sounds really good. As with every Duran Duran release, this LP got a bad rap from some critics back in the daybut Pay them no mind and grab this solid disc. It will make your system sound great.

FACTORY Sealed LP-  Out of Print USA PRESSED 7 81808-1 rare analog

sealed LP  - Out of Print FACTORY SEALED Analog LP with small cutout on jacket

When it comes to Foreigner's 80s output, most people generally think of the many contemporary pop/rock ballads such as 'Waiting For A Girl Like You' or 'I want To Know What Love Is'. While this album showcases more songs of that style in the form of the hits 'Say You Will' and 'I Don't Want To Live Without You', we forget that Foreigner can still rock hard like they did in the 70s. Well, maybe not as hard, but their heavier material in the 80s is too often overlooked.

The album kicks off with 'Heart Turns To Stone' and 'Can't Wait', two great hard rockers. Then we get to the two aformentioned balladic hits off the album. Very good songs, though they had their fair share of radio airplay. Next we get to another good rocker, 'Counting Every Minute'. The title track is undeniably pop, but also undeniably catchy. Following it is yet another rocker, 'The Beat Of My Heart'. 'Face To Face' is my favorite of the underrated tracks off the album, combining the hard rock sense of 'Heart Turns To Stone' with the melodic stylings of 'Say You Will' to a good effect. Closing the album is the touching ballad 'Out Of The Blue' and mid tempo rocker 'A Night To Remember'.

Overall, this is a great Foreigner album.  Inside Information is definitely one of the better albums to come out that year. As another reviewer put, this album showed songs full of emotion and conviction in a time when other bands were singing about partying & girls. This may not be Foreigner in their 70s prime, but if you are interested in what they did in the 80s, Inside Information is probably the best bet to go with.

In the days one-album-a-year contract with music label was pretty common, absence of 8 years could mean the band is dead. Even if the band managed to restart, are there market enough to boost the sales of the album? Boston with this third album in 1986 did such miracle like a phoenix from the ashes. Also this title is one of my all-time top favarite albums.

The album despite the fact it produced three huge hits including Amanda which became first #1 single for the band, is a concept album describing the third huge leap in your life stage. So the core track is three-parted THE LAUNCH with very progressive approach, rare for the music during 80s. The rest are carefully chosen to fit the very theme of the album.

AMANDA opening and the band's biggest hit also has reprises in the album such as MY DESTINATION or partly HOLLYANNA the last track. WE'RE READY which became the second biggest hit from the album works as a prelude to the opus THE LAUNCH. THE LAUNCH is the instrumental which provides the very reason you buy this album and listen to the album as a whole work. COOL THE ENGINES set the tone back to pop-oriented side of the album while A NEW WORLD resides as a last stand for the pompous rock the symbol of 70s progressive rock. TO BE A MAN, I THINK I LIKE IT and CAN'T CHA SAY again invites you to the mellower yet dynamic pop rock the trademark sound of BOSTON. HOLLYANN is the variation of AMANDA in opening part yet closes the album with ethreal chorus

Although the opening track, "Shout," takes on the theme of catharsis that dominated THE HURTING two years earlier, the progression evident from that debut to SONGS FROM THE BIG CHAIR is manifest in every other facet. While many of the band's synth-pop peers continued to develop along a linear route, Tears For Fears vaulted into the potentially insipid world of '80s MOR.
Curt Smith sings on the radio-friendly "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," but Roland Orzabal's stronger voice takes center-stage for much of the album, including the spirited single "Mother's Talk" and a falsetto on the stadium-sized "Head Over Heels." "The Working Hour" is the perfect realization of the new sound: a smooth six-minute arrangement of saxophone, piano, and guitar that's marked by a restrained sense of drama. SONGS FROM THE BIG CHAIR is an excellent album and, shading Simple Minds' ONCE UPON A TIME, arguably the finest example of epic '80s pop. The 1998 remastered edition includes seven bonus tracks.

AMBROSIA ROAD ISLAND RSK 3638 ISSUE - original WARNER BOTHERS RECORDS RELEASE  WITH SMALL CUTOUT IN SEALED JACKET AND THE JACKET SHOWS SOME SHELF WEAR BUT THE VINYL IS PURE NEW NEVER OPENED NEVER PLAYED..I remember the first time I heard "How Can You Love Me" on the radio and the DJ saying "that was Ambrosia". I think I fell over, I was used to a MUCH more subdued "soft rock" approach from these guys. I went out and bought the cassette  and it immediately became one of my favorites. From the opening bombast of "For Openers (Welcome Home)" it grabbed me and never let up. So many strong songs with muscle flexing percussion that is really what separates this set from their other offerings (not to mention some true rock-howling in "Kid No More"). There are cuts meant to appeal to established fans ("Feelin' Alive Again" and "Fool Like Me") but even they are harder driving than the typical Ambrosia effort. This would have to be Ambrosia's most underrated effort in their career. Whether or not, this spawned their break-up is anybody's guess. The reason would have to be that Ambrosia decided to follow a little bit of a different track on this release, a little more on the progressive side (just listen to the opening track) and the critics didn't like it. But who cares about the critics and what do they know anyway. Yes, they still put in their ballad for the pop 40 audience, but this album wasn't what one was expecting after their commercial success of One-Eighty. David Pack has appeared on numerous outings and some solo efforts over the years but none can match what Ambrosia accomplished here on their farewell album. Get it today BECAUSE YOU MIGHT NOT EVER SEE IT again ON VINYL.

With his husky, soulful baritone, Michael McDonald became one of the most distinctive and popular vocalists to emerge from the laid-back California pop/rock scene of the late '70s. McDonald found the middle ground between blue-eyed soul and smooth soft rock, a sound that made him a star. He initially essayed his signature style with the Doobie Brothers, ushering in the group's most popular period with hits like "What a Fool Believes" and "Taking It to the Streets." McDonald disbanded the group in 1982 to pursue a solo career, which was initially quite successful, but by the end of the decade his popularity had faded away, since he was reluctant to work regularly and hesitant to update his sound to suit shifting popular tastes.

After singing backup on several Steely Dan albums in the mid-'70s, Michael McDonald joined the Doobie Brothers in 1977. He was largely responsible for moving the group away from boogie rock and toward polished, jazzy blue-eyed soul. Prior to the Doobies' farewell tour in 1982, he sang harmony on several hit singles, including tracks by Donna Summer, Toto, Kenny Loggins, and Christopher Cross. As it turned out, McDonald's solo work was a cross between the Doobie Brothers' white-bread soul and Cross' adult contemporary ballads.

McDonald released his solo debut, If That's What It Takes, in 1982. The record climbed to number six on the strength of the number four single "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)," which also crossed over into the R&B Top Ten. In 1983, he had another Top 20 pop hit (and a Top Ten R&B hit) with his duet with James Ingram, "Yah Mo B There." McDonald didn't deliver his second solo album, No Lookin' Back, until 1985. The record wasn't as successful as its predecessor, producing only one moderate hit in its title track. He bounced back the following year, when his duet with Patti LaBelle, "On My Own," shot to number one and "Sweet Freedom," his theme for the Billy Crystal/Gregory Hines comedy Running Scared, climbed into the Top Ten.

Instead of capitalizing on his revitalized success, McDonald didn't release another album until 1990. The resulting Take It to Heart was a bomb, peaking at number 110. Two years later, his fortunes were revived somewhat when he sang on Aretha Franklin's minor hit "Ever Changing Times" and toured with Donald Fagen's New York Rock and Soul Revue. The following year, he released Blink of an Eye, which was ignored. In 1994, "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)" was sampled heavily in Warren G's smash hit "Regulate." By 1996, McDonald had returned to the Doobie Brothers, touring the oldies circuit with the reunited group. The following year, McDonald released Blue Obsession, his first album of new material in three years. He released a Christmas album (In the Spirit: A Christmas Album) in 2001, and began a series of recordings devoted to the Motown catalog with 2003's Motown. Motown Two and Soul Speak followed in 2004 and 2008 respectively.

DOOBIE BROTHERS - ONE STEP CLOSER - ORIGINAL 1980 RELEASE

Album Notes
Doobie Brothers: Patrick Simmons, John McFee (vocals, guitar); Cornelius Bumpus (vocals, saxophone, organ); Michael McDonald (vocals, keyboards); Keith Knudsen (vocals, drums); Tiran Porter (bass); Chet McCracken (drums, percussion).Additional personnel: Christopher Thompson, Nicolette Larson (vocals); Joel Peskin (baritone saxophone); Jerome Jumonville (saxophone); Bill Armstrong, Lee Thornburg (trumpet); Patrick Henderson (keyboards); Bobby LaKind, Ted Templeman (percussion). The Doobie's last album before hanging it up for nearly a decade featured new personnel (in particular hot shot guitarist John McFee). But Michael McDonald was still running the show with his firm grasp on sophisticated pop soul. The title track here could be the best thing McDonald ever did, mating an ebullient tune in his "What a Fool Believes" style with a chorus that borders on power pop. Nothing else quite matches that, although "Real Love" and "Keep This Train A Rollin'" come close. "South Bay Strut" continues the band's tradition of including tempo changes in the instrumental breaks; it's a slick piece of fusion jazz that lets McFee strut his stuff.

In 1978 Peter Frampton appeared in the movie version of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, alongside the Bee Gees. He played the role of Billy Shears. The movie was not received well, although it did give Frampton another Rolling Stone magazine cover appearance. The soundtrack was successful though, it reached #5 in the album charts and went platinum. Frampton appears on the album, performing The Beatles tunes alongside people like George Burns. On June 21, 1978, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was released into theaters. In June 1978, Frampton suffered a near fatal car crash in the Bahamas, which left him with a concussion, muscle damage and broken bones. To make matters worse, he and his longtime girlfriend also ended their relationship. But in 1979, he released the album, which went gold and produced the hit "I Can't Stand It No More", which reached #14 in the singles charts. In addition to some good Frampton compositions and guitar solos ("Got My Feet Back on the Ground", "Everything I Need", and "She Don't Reply") The album's other highlights include the two Isaac Hayes - David Porter covers, "May I Baby" and "You Don't Know Like I Know".

LIONEL RICHIE - DANCING ON THE CEILING   - MOTOWN RECORDS ORIGINAL RELEASE 1985 WITH GATEFOLD JACKET - 6158ML

ORIGINAL COLLECTORS STICKER STILL ATTACHED MARKET THE HIT - SAY YOU SAY ME -   pressing with a small cutout thru the original sealed jacket. DECADES  OUT OF PRINT. SEALED IN ORIGINAL PLASTIC WRAP

By the end of the 70s, Lionel Richie was emerging as a star within the successful R&B group The Commodores. They had began as a funk band but found greater commercial success by focusing on pop ballads, the most successful of which were written and performed by Richie. After penning the biggest hit in Motown history - "Endless Love", a duet with Diana Ross - Richie was sure that he could pursue a successful solo career, and quit The Commodores at the end of 1981.

His conviction was not misplaced. A self-titled debut solo album sold over four million copies, but Can't Slow Down (1983) far exceeded that: thanks to over a year spent in the Top 10, and the Album of the Year Grammy, it sold over 20 million copies worldwide. Two massive hit singles from that album - "Hello" and "All Night Long (All Night)" - are usually considered Richie's signature songs. His third solo album, Dancing on the Ceiling (1986), was another multi-platinum success, and featured the chart-topping "Say You, Say Me".

Richie took a well-deserved break after Dancing on the Ceiling, and didn't release an album of new songs for 10 years. Although he has failed to enjoy any further charting singles, his newer albums still sell several hundred-thousand copies each.

1. Dancing On The Ceiling
2. Se La
3. Ballerina Girl
4. Don't Stop
5. Deep River Woman
6. Love Will Conquer All
7. Tonight Will Be Alright
8. Say You Say Me

THE GO GO'S VACATION I.R.S. RECORDS 1982 RELEASEThe Go-Go's are one of those rare occurrences in rock 'n roll; a group that actually never released a bad album! In fact, I would go so far as to say that perhaps only one or two songs from all four major releases could be considered somewhat "lack-luster". Basically, all of the material released by the Go-Go's between 1981 and 1984 was outstanding. Even the 2001 release "God Bless the Go-Go's" is strikingly good! The Go-Go's have always been a group with determination, plenty of ambition, and a genuine love of the rock 'n roll fantasy!

"Vacation" was considered a bit weaker than the debut effort (Beauty and the Beat) by many critics of the day, but I strongly disagree! Songs like "Get Up and Go", "Beatnik Beach", "I Think It's Me" and "Worlds Away" are incredibly well crafted pop songs and are required listening for fans of the Go-Go's. I cannot imagine a stronger follow-up release!

I must point out that the career of the Go-Go's closely paralleled that of another "power pop" group of the late 70's and early 80's, "The Knack". Both groups had a hugely successful debut album that reached number one on the charts. Both groups quickly released a follow-up effort that was very successful and yet was considered a failure when compared to the success of the debut. Both groups released a third effort that received critical praise and yet failed commercially. Both groups broke-up shortly after the third and final album.

Regardless of commercial or critical success, the Go-Go's always delivered GREAT rock 'n roll. "Vacation" may not have escaped (commercially) from the long shadow of "Beauty and the Beat", but it contains some of the best songs by the Go-Go's. Belinda, Jane, Charlotte, Kathy and Gina were destined to deliver some of the most memorable and most perfectly crafted pop songs of the rock 'n roll era.

"Vacation" is highly recommended for fans of "early 80's", "power pop", "new wave", and just plain great rock 'n roll!

BANANARAMA - TRUE CONFESSIONS - ORIGINAL  LONDON RECORDS 828013-1R-1 - 1986 RELEASE pressing with a small cutout thru the original sealed jacket. TWENTY YEARS OUT OF PRINT. SEALED IN ORIGINAL PLASTIC WRAP.

I thought that this was a superb followup to their '84 album! Bananarama matured a lot on this one! I liked the dramatic first song that clocks in at 6 minutes, a departure from their mostly dance music. Venus is still a hot song to this day. One other song I like is More Than Physical. The rest of the album contains some very smart and breezy pop songs. They really came through on this album

1. True Confessions
2. Ready or Not
3. A Trick of the Night
4. Dance with a Stranger
5. In a Perfect World
6. Venus
7. Do Not Disturb
8. A Cut Above the Rest
9. Promised Land
10. More Than Physical
11. Hooked on Love

THE BABYS - ANTHOLOGY - CHRYSALIS RECORDS PV41351 - 1981 RELEASE pressing with a small cutout thru the original sealed jacket. TWENTY YEARS OUT OF PRINT. SEALED IN ORIGINAL PLASTIC WRAP

I always liked this group from day one! John Waite has an excellent voice and it didin't surprise me that he was successful as a solo artist in the 80's. The Baby's put out excellent ballads such as "Isn't It Time" and "Everytime I think of You" (both big hits) as well as great rock n' roll. Songs such as "Head First", "Love Don't Prove I'm Right", and "Back On My Feet Again" (to mention a few) are extremely catchy and very radio friendly. The Baby's (in my opinion) never really made it as big as they should have, but at least they left us with some great songs and a nice collection of TRACKS as well. Highly Recommended!

ROBERT CRAY - STRONG PERSUADER - ORIGINAL Factory Sealed ISSUE FROM HIGHTONE RECORDS PRESSED IN 1986 -  DECADES LONG OUT OF PRINT.

Cray's commercial breakthrough. The single 'Smokin' Gun" spearheaded yet another blues revival. This album is a strong collection of blues and R&B-based songs steeped in the tradition of Bobby Bland, 0. V. Wright, Stax Records, and guitar stylings of equal parts Steve Cropper and Albert Collins. The songs are thematically linked-all deal with cheating and its ramifications-and give Cray an anguished, contemporary persona.

Stinging urban blues by way of Texas and Memphis distinguish Robert Cray's major-label debut, which followed three strong independent releases. Here he fleshes out his sound with bursts of brassy Southern soul courtesy of the Memphis Horns, but keeps his pungent, steely guitar solos out front in an engaging dialogue with his plaintive vocals. Released in 1986, Strong Persuader signaled that Cray, as a writer--like his contemporary Stevie Ray Vaughan--had something to say about his interior life beyond the usual blues man's laments, an approach that pays homage to the music's rich traditions while suggesting new areas of inquiry.

Tracks include: . Smoking Gun 2. I Guess I Showed Her 3. Right Next Door (Because Of Me) 4. Nothin' But A Woman 5. Still Around 6. More Than I Can Stand 7. Foul Play 8. I Wonder 9. Fantasized 10. New Blood

PLUS DOOR TO DOOR - DIRECT METAL MASTERED DMM - THIS TITLE IS JUST A FREE BONUS BECAUSE THE ITEM IS EVERY TIGHTLY PLASTIC WRAPPED AND NOT SURE IF IT'S WARPED BUT AS VINYL COLLECTORS KNOW WARPED LP'S CAN PLAY PREFECT.

The Cars "Door to Door" is a classic example of a underrated rock album. Some of the critics obviously didn't get it however, fans and critics who know The Cars albums back to the beginning in '78 understand that "Door to Door" is an exellent very diverse album covering many music styles from the rocking "Strap Me In" and pop sounding "You Are the Girl" to the punk sounding title track "Door to Door" down to the softer sound of "Comming Up You" sung by Ben Orr. All of the songs are done with a true reflection of The Cars styles of previous albums while also showing a more mature sound. Producer Ric Ocasek does a great job in keeping the album sounding consistent, strong and not overly Produced. "Door to Door" is highly recommended and a superb foll-up to the very successful "Heartbeat City". A great ending to The Cars studio albums!

ACTING VERY STRANGE - Acting very strange, indeed. This is far and away the most "fun" album anybody from Genesis ever did. Rutherford decided to let his hair down and have a ball, and his enjoyment shines through from the first note. This is not the mild-mannered upper-class Englishman we're familiar with. This is a Mike Rutherford who, knowing he can't sing to save his life, sings anyway with reckless abandon. The music is lively and toe-tapping, with hooks to grab the listener and not let go. If you're looking for the polish of Mike and the Mechanics, or the creativity of Genesis, you won't find it here. If you're looking for a great time and a lot of fun, you won't do any better.

EVERLY BROTHERS - BORN YESTERDAY -  Out of Print 30 YEARS FACTORY SEALED ORIGINAL RELEASE Analog LP with small cutout on jacket but contains all the original LP picture sleeve LP insert.

BORN YESTERDAY 1986 ORIGINAL RELEASE - THIS LP IS STILL FACTORY SEALED WITH ORIGINAL MARKETING STICKERS STILL ATTACHED. THIS LP HAS A CUTOUT IN THE JACKET BUT OTHER THEN THAT YOU ARE RECEIVING THE ORIGINAL 1986 RELEASE OF THIS LP.

In the mid 80's the Everly Bros. might have been thought just as another nostaglia act playing county fairs and trying to get by. BUT! Everly Bros. 50's and 60's records influenced every one from Bob Dylan to Beatles to each two part harmony after. They were beloved, but somewhat forgotten until Paul McCartney wrote a minor '84 hit for them, "Wings of a Nightengale". That led to this underappreciated classic, "Born Yesterday". Produced by Jeff Lynne of ELO, the songs include covers of contempory writers and bands such as Dire Straits, choice songs by the likes of Bob Dylan and new ones written by themselves. Song selections fit Don and Phil like a iron fist in a velvet glove. The harmonies of Everly Bros. now have an older, wistful, longing and it sounds achingly bittersweet. Early 45s /LPs/ have that joy of the new and there are plenty of greatest hits compliations of EB, but this is their shinging glory..
and hardly any has heard it. As they sang.. "So Sad.."

FRANKIE VALLI THE VERY BEST OF FOR THOSE JERSEY BOYS FANS THE original 1979 MCA/CURB RECORDS MCA-3198 pressing. DECADES OUT OF PRINT. FACTORY SEALED Analog LP with small cutout on jacket

Out of Print FACTORY SEALED Analog LP with small cutout on jacket

analog vinyl pressing - the way music was meant to be heard. Out of Print forever!!

The Four Seasons were the fourth biggest singles group of the sixties, only the Beatles, Supremes, and Beach Boys were bigger. When Frankie Valli went solo, it must have seemed like a no-brainer that he'd be a huge star. He started releasing singles in 1966 with some success -- including the lush, string-filled smash "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" (#2 in 1967). However, by 1969 his career had faded.

Fortunately, Frankie was one of a handful of sixties male acts whose careers were resurrected in the mid-seventies, along with Neil Sedaka and Paul Anka. Specifically, he hit with the gorgeous ballad "My Eyes Adored You" (#1 in 1975). He followed that hit up with several others, including the disco-fied "Swearin' to God" (#6 in 1975) and "Our Day Will Come" (#11 in 1975) a dance-tinged remake of the sixties hit by Ruby & the Romantics. In addition, he had the biggest hit of his career with the title song from the movie adaptation of "Grease" (#1 for 2 weeks in 1978).

All of these songs are on "Greatest Hits," as well as two moderate hits -- "To Give (The Reason I Live) (#29 in 1968) and "You're Gonna Hurt Yourself" (#39 in 1966). THEN THERE IS - THE SUN AIN'T GONNA SHINE & YOUR READY FOR NOW COMPLETES THE VERY BEST OF SELECTION.

I love Frankie Valli's falsetto, and many of these hits use his gorgeous vocals to magical effect. However, this collection could have benefitted from being organized chronologically, as his sixties hits sound extremely different from his mid-seventies singles. Listening to the danceable seventies music and then jumping back to a melodramatic sixties hit is a bit jarring. Frankie really had two careers, and this LP should have reflected that more explicitly. Also, the liner notes are sparse, with only writing and publishing credits listed for each song. The music is great, but the collection could have been a tad better
