Here's a BONA FIDE ORIGINAL 1978 Star Wars Style "D" 30x40 inch Movie Poster [Theater Lobby Display]: This style "D" Star Wars 30x40 is one of the most famous movie posters ever designed. Star Wars originally opened in May of 1977 on just 32 theater screens worldwide. It played continually for more than a year straight to record-breaking crowds in extremely limited release. After that extended "roadshow play," Fox decided to go wide with Star Wars in the summer of 1978, expanding the number of theaters by the hundreds. The ongoing poster campaign was renewed by issuing this amazing style "D" artwork. There was finally time to execute the poster George Lucas had originally envisioned but couldn't deliver by the films rushed 1977 opening. Two artists, Charles White III and Drew Struzan, were commissioned. This style D artwork was the result. 

THIS IS A RARE 30x40 Movie Poster Display: 30x40s were issued by the National Screen Service as a higher quality alternative to the one-sheets. These were a lot more money for a theater manager to order, as much as 10 times that of a standard one-sheet, and so not nearly as many were ordered - OR - produced in the first place. A typical one-sheet from the 1970's would be printed in quantities exceeding 10,000. A 30x40 from the 1970's would be printed in quantities of only a few hundred. Additionally, 30x40 posters were printed on MUCH better fine art quality paper, as opposed to the thin inexpensive one-sheet stock. They were always issued ROLLED NOT FOLDED, and so it cost more for NSS to originally ship them. 30x40's were always considered a premium deluxe item in the film exhibition industry. The format originally dates back to the 1930's. NSS permanently discontinued manufacturing them in the late 1980's, shortly before they went out of business.

This poster was in Excellent++ Condition before I had it museum-mounted. I had it paper-mounted to flatten it out and remove some of the dings that occurred from handling throughout the years. It worked like a charm because the poster came out perfect and remains that way! It's flat as a pancake - even flatter! I used the best conservator in the USA. He ONLY uses high-grade materials. The better materials cost more but make a real difference in the end result. I've posted direct high-resolution scans of the poster you will receive here on eBay so you can see just how terrific this rare display is!
