This is a KATALOX (swartzia cubensis) back and side set.

This wood is also known as Mexican Royal Ebony, and is considered a good substitute for African ebony.

Katalox is a very hard, extremely dense wood with a loud, bell-like taptone.

Wood ranges in color from pinkish purple to dark black, with white sapwood.

The heartwood oxidizes very quickly to a dark blackish purple soon after exposed to light and air.

It works very nicely, and is very easy to finish.

The measurements are as follows: back boards - 8 1/2" x  21 1/2" x .130+" thick. The sides- 5" x 32 1/2" x .130+".
