This is a Tibetan eye agate dzi bead. It is not dyed or altered in any way except for being shaped, smoothed, and drilled. Eye agate beads and stones have been highly revered in many cultures for thousands of years. In Tibetan Buddhism and culture, natural eye agate dzi beads are regarded as auspicious sacred objects. The eye pattern symbolizes the watchful and protective eye of Buddha/God/Creator, while also passively reminding us to be mindful of our own thoughts, words, and actions, as the all-seeing eye never closes. In Tibetan Buddhist tradition, these natural treasures are sometimes hung on altars as offerings, and are also held, worn, and passed down as precious heirlooms. These naturally patterned agate beads are the first and original order of dzi beads. The incredible banding and patterns of these natural Tibetan agates was, and continues to be the inspiration for the more commonly seen brown un-patterned agate beads that are decorated/etched with symbolic patterns and designs in contrasting white color that are first painted, and then baked into/onto them. Natural agate is a micro-crystalline form of quartz, and vibrates as such. This beautiful bead measures 1.10 x .70 inches. It has a soft matte patina, and feels silky smooth in the hand. Domestic shipping with delivery confirmation on this item is free. |
