Stunning antique French twin handled porcelain urn by the Mennecy-Villeroy porcelain works formed by Francois Barbin under the patronage of the Duc de Villeroy. A very pretty unusual design with rich rose-purple and fresh green enamel decoration and with beautifully hand painted country scene vignettes either side. Reticulated decoration as a chain band around the rim and in a twisted pattern in the octagonal faceted base. Lovely ornate scrolled handles and the whole highlighted with gilding. Impressed D.V mark to the base, probably a later piece dating to the later 18th century based on the age of other pieces with this vignette decoration rather than the more famous floral images.

It measures 5 3/4" high. It probably had a lid at some point as the rim is unglazed. Condition is very good but there is a hairline to one side. It would originally have had a cover. The cup is held to the base by a large metal bolt which has stayed tight.
